Best $22 spent EVER

Was looking for a way to stream music in the kids room on the cheap. Plus I needed to replace their clock. The Bluetooth clock radios out there were more expensive than I wanted to spend on a couple of kids, but then I stumbled on this bad boy. And it was on clearance. It's perfect for what I needed; the sound is not bad for its size, and I haven't had any problems with the Bluetooth. I doubt I would have spent full price on this, but for the clearance price, this was a no brainier.

Harmony on-the-cheap(ish) done right(ish)

I've been a long-time Harmony remote user (latest was the Harmony One), and have always appreciated how easy it was to control multiple devices via "Activities", as well as the remote's learning capabilities. Our current Harmony remote was getting worse at holding a charge, so I went Harmony shopping again. But I felt the latest similar models were too expensive ($200+), so I decided to try the Smart Control.
The instructions said the device should be in the tv cabinet and to use the extra IR blaster to reach the TV and other components. It only includes one extra blaster, which I didn't think would be enough for our setup, so I put the device on a shelf behind our sofa, and it works great. It has been controlling our devices without issue.
My only complaint is that the included remote has fewer buttons than previous Harmony remotes. Sure, you can use your phone or tablet to control it, but I prefer the included remote; it's easier to just pick that up and do stuff than to take out the phone and open the app. So next time, I'd like to see Harmony include separate channel and page up/down buttons, and well as separate fast forward/rewind and next/previous chapter buttons.
But overall, it's a good product, and my best Harmony experience to date.

What's great about it: More reliable device control than previous models, works from across the room
What's not so great: Wish included remote had more buttons

A nice start for wearable tech

I bought the Pebble mostly as a curiosity, since I'm a software developer and wanted to try writing my own pebble apps. I got it just as the Pebble app store went online, and I look forward to seeing what creative uses developers can come up with.
I'm not the type that gets tons of phone calls or emails, but receiving notifications on the watch is very convenient (vs. pulling the phone out of my pocket to see who's calling or emailing). Plus it tells time, which is another reason to leave the phone pocketed. Seriously...it's been so many years since I've worn a watch, being able to tell time with just a glance at my wrist is liberating.
My main disappointment is with the screen. It's a simple black and white lcd which reminds me of the Palm Pilot days. I realize Pebble uses this screen technology to maximize battery life, but seeing aliased text and graphics feels very old school. I wouldn't have minded paying a little extra for a display that supports 16+ shades of grey (assuming it didn't hurt battery life).
There are other visually fancier smart watches coming out soon (Google) which I'd expect to cost much more than the Pebble. But if you're interested in dipping your wrist into the world of wearables, the Pebble is a relatively solid, inexpensive place to start.

What's great about it: Price relative to other options, growing ecosystem
What's not so great: Needs a more capable screen
