Sennheiser HD201s Deliver
on February 9, 2009

I was looking for an affordable set of closed ear headphones that produced great sound (for PC/console gaming, laptop, iPod, etc.) and was also lightweight, and the HD 201s fit the bill. They were professionally packaged as like all Sennheiser products and come with a 1/4" adapter... nice bonus there. The cord is also very generous which is always important for non-wireless headphones, just note that each earcup is wired which I actually prefer over the 'only one earcup is wired' approach.
The HD 201s are indeed lightweight just by picking up the retail box, and have excellent build quality overall. I owned an older set of Sennheiser headphones and the headband cushion eventually started loosing adhesion, but this one is secured by a couple of mounts on either side of the inner headband, so it's unlikely you'll have that problem with these headphones. They're also fairly adjustable to fit a variety of melon sizes, and the earcups swivel and tilt for added comfort.
The HD201s passed all my tests in terms of producing great sound levels. Crisp bass thundered from the likes of Crystal Method and Metallica, but not to the point of being overwhelming. Treble was also spot on and there was no noticeable distortion or static in the background. Of course these are not noise cancelling so you'll still be able to hear a bit of your surroundings when you don't have audio pumping through, although muffled. And they do tend to make your ears a tad warm so you'll probably not be able to use them for hours at a time. All in all though, a great bargain for only 20 bucks as of the time of this review... just be sure to buy it at the sale price!
What's great about it: Super lightweight, great build quality, terrific sound, excellent value
What's not so great: Not noise cancelling
I would recommend this to a friend!
