A Monumental Achievement

Let's get the following point out of the way first: "Black Panther is the greatest super-hero movie since Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins." This movie has it all, a highly moral and admirable protagonist hero; one despicable villian; one antagonist of the hero (note I did not write villain) whose motives while problematic are also justifiable; exotic locations; fantastic sets; awesome cinematography; great dialogue; spot on casting; futuristic but plausible high tech gadgets; outstanding fight scenes; outstanding film score. Take all of those elements and combine them with the cultural importance of this movie and you have a "must see" experience. Black Panther is a monumental achievement, one that merits owning a copy of this film.

Although USB C is a reality, eventually driving USB 2.0 into extinction, which some of us end users of technology are dreading, the now established usefulness of Chromebooks and other mid- priced laptops make flash drives a necessary component of mobile computing. Since moblie computing often means that your Chromebook or laptop PC might not have enough storage space for every project that you are working on, having multiple flash drives make it easier to keep your files separated and reasonably accessible while not using up crucial hard drive space. Since all of my current mobile computing tech have USB 2.0 ports, having multiple USB 2.0 flash drives is still practical. This kit at the price I bought it for is super affordable portable storage. At 16 GB per drive, you will have plenty of room for documents. Depending on the format that was used, 16 GB will be enough for storage dozens of photographs. 16 GB can store hundreds of MP3 files as well. Since many autos now play MP3 files through on board USB ports (usually USB 2.0) I keep my MP3 files on some of the drives that I bought. PNY brand is fine for non-sensitive documents and other types of media (in other words non-work related files.)

Ahead of its time, but now a little long in tooth

I first saw this film decades ago in one of my local movie theatres that catered to the Saturday matinee crowd. I also saw other such quirky films ,e.g., The Adventures of Remo Williams, around that time in my life. While this special edition has many extras (some of which are simply underwhelming) the real pleasure is seeing this film in a beautiful HD format. While the movie's plot is borderline nonsensical, the true joy of this film lies in it functioning as an introduction to a saga already underway, not unlike the first Star Wars movie. The plot assumes that you know about the Banzai Institute, Yoyodyne Propulsion Systems, etc. and it spends little time explaining what they are and why the main characters are the way that they are. Seeing Peter Weller, Jeff Goldblum, Ellen Barkin and John Lithgow (at his scene-chewing best) makes this film and its pseudo-science fiction plot enjoyable and a real treat. However, despite the fact that this movie is racially diverse is its casting, there are elements that paradoxically are ethnically insensitive and somewhat dated. This film, while ahead of its time, it is a little long in the tooth and its eccentricities (some endearing, some aggravating) render it more of a failed experiment more than a visionary work of art that fans of it have asserted it be. That being said, given the rise of Nerd culture and Hollywood's current deficit of new ideas, it may be time to dust off Buckaroo Banzai and the Hong Kong Cavaliers and give them a second chance at making the world safe from the forces of evil. Jersey Strong indeed!

Perfect Laptop Protection

After discovering that one of laptop messenger bags was prone to letting in the elements, I decided to remedy that situation by buying a laptop sleeve that would accommodate my two 15.6" laptops that I take with me out on the road where I sometimes find myself doing work in all sort of public spaces. Since one of those laptops is a 15.6 HP laptop with an optical drive it made sense to try the HP Black laptop case. It has several great features: a textured exterior ( prevents your hands slipping off the case when lifting your laptop out of your backpack or messenger bag); faux fur lining (prevents any scratches to the exterior of your laptop as you insert it or extract it from the case) and dual wraparound zippers with an additional exterior zippered pocket ( the pocket is shallow but can hold extra SD cards, pens , pencils or wired earbuds). The black color insures that most things that could stain or discolor the case simply won't show. However, some oils, hand lotions or hand cleansers might compromise that feature. This case is well constructed and so far has worked with my 15.6" low profile Lenovo laptop that is my coffee shop workhorse. While this case is not flashy or high profile, it appeals to my appreciation of things that are minimalistic in appearance. Note that some 15.6" laptops with optical drives might be too thick for use with this case. But since more and more laptops are absent that feature I doubt if that attribute of this product will be a problem.

Great Backpack for in the field Photographers

Because of my need to preserve visual evidence for work becoming the rule rather than the exception, I needed to have a means of transporting both my HD Camcorder with its attachments and my still photography cameras, both digital and analog, with their respective attachments and accessories. While I was aware of the Lowepro brand, it was not until a friend of mine (a serious photographer) informed me, that given the cost of my cameras, under no circumstances should I skimp on a transport system. He showed me his array of Lowepro bags and spoke so highly of the brand that I knew that I should seek out their products. Enter Best Buy and the helpful sales associate Ramon, who helped me pick this all weather backpack that is both roomy, and weatherproof. Its design features easy access compartments for your cameras, lenses, charging cords,spare SD cards, etc. . A special bonus is that it has a roomy internal pocket for a laptop. This means that I can go to a site with my tripod, lighting, spare mikes and my editing laptop.all in a well balanced backpack that distributes the weight evenly and fits over seasonal light outerwear. I haven't tried putting it on over my winter parka, but, I've had no problem putting it on over my fleece zip ups that I favor in the fall and early winter. Putting it on over a rain poncho should be no problem either. Overall, Lowepro hit a home run with this backpack.

A no-frills but efficient cooling mat

Having had to obtain on short notice a Windows 10 laptop with optical drive included for some work related video production, I picked up an inexpensive 15.6" laptop to use at the office in the ad hoc video production space I had set up. Since my Toshiba Satellite 15.6" i5 processor Windows 10 laptop did not have an optical drive and I wanted to avoid cluttering up its hard drive with video files, purchasing a second laptop for a specific purpose made sense and space limitations precluded using an external optical drive at the designated space at work.
Much to my chagrin, the under $400.00 bargain computer (with an i3 core processor) had both a shorter than expected battery life and it ran hot after two hours of continuous use.
Enter the Targus dual fan Chill Mat cooling system. A USB powered hard plastic mat that keeps my laptop cool during video production sessions at the office. There is nothing especially fancy about this product and it is USB 2.0 only. But it keeps one's laptop temperature down and that is what it's supposed to do. This a a no-frills but efficient cooling mat affordably priced.
By plugging it into an external USB 2.0 hub I now have a cost effective video workstation where I can transfer video files from the digital camcorder that I use for work to the bargain laptop where I can burn DVDs on an as needed basis for clients.

Stylish yet functional

After having to upgrade to new 15.6" laptop for work, I discovered that I needed a new laptop bag to accommodate this larger computer. But because I wanted more of an attache/briefcase type of bag as opposed to the typical techie backpack computer bag commonly available, I felt that I was out of luck in finding a laptop attache that I could transport both my paper files and my laptop in while not looking like I was still in school.
I have been a user of the Solo brand of computer bags for years, so finding this bag at Best Buy with the mature, i.e., business appropriate design and style was quite fortuitous. While the loading capacity of this bag is limited as far as packing papers, tablet, and laptop with accessories goes, this bag is more that able to carry a reasonable sized load. I can easily load my work laptop, two reasonably sized legal sized file folders and the charging brick for my laptop in this bag with no problems. Let's face facts, the bulk of your work product is going to be on your laptop anyway, so needing to have the capacity to carry a huge number of physical documents is not a priority.
That having been said, I would refrain from carrying in this bag both your tablet and laptop with a substantial number of physical documents ( for example two or more books or really massive amounts of paper files) in order to avoid risking damage to the screens of your electronics. I have been able to use one of the exterior pockets to store my 8" Verizon Ellipsis tablet in its Zagg bluetooth keyboard case while carrying my 7" Samsung Barnes and Noble Nook eReader inside the designated slot on the inside of this bag and a reasonable amount of physical documents. Obviously when transporting my laptop I leave the Ellipsis at the office and place the eReader in the aforementioned exterior pocket.
That having been said, I would refrain from carrying in this bag both your tablet and laptop with a substantial number of physical documents ( for example two or more books or really massive amounts of paper files) in order to avoid risking damage to the screens of your electronics. When carrying your laptop computer in this bag I recommend that you use a neoprene laptop sleeve for additional protection as the bag lacks a significant amount of padding inside and outside to protect against a dropped bag.
I find this bag to be both stylish yet functional. Hip looking but with a measure of maturity thrown in.

An action packed sequel to the Man with the Iron Fists (which was meant to be part of Tarentino's "Django Unleased" universe.) Here the Wu-Tang member / producer RZA continues to occupy the center stage as the protagonist of this multicultural Kung Fu fantasy adventure.
Full of both inventive fight scenes and a glorious soundtrack, this movie( while peppered with gratuitous violence, etc.) possesses some the best one liners in the dialogue since the heyday of the Shaw Brothers Hong Kong classics of the 1970's.
Clearly aimed for the hardcore martial arts movie fan, RZA is a more than capable screen martial artist and an actor who can anchor such a film.
While not a "must -see" movie, The Man with the Iron Fists 2 is a more than adequate action movie that won't disappoint the hip-hop kung -fu members of your household. Talk to the Iron Fists.

A bigger but not quite better sequel.

Let's face it, the appeal of the first film in this apparent franchise (Hitman) was that the videogame that spawned it was already successful. The casting was more than capable and the action scenes were done well enough to make that film a financial success. Now Hitman Agent 47 comes along and tries to make lightening strike the same place twice. The action scenes are bigger but almost less believable and Zachary Quito is a bit of stunt casting, but because Rupert Friend has replaced Timothy Olyphant, the acting matters more and both performers do as well as can be expected given the nature of the film. Bottom line, this film won't disappoint fans of the first film, but, it is not the sequel this franchise needs in order to continue.

After reading on the internet that a rebooting of this franchise is in the works, I opted to purchase this collection on Blu-Ray. Having owned the VHS version of Alien; this remastered collection is a visual joy to behold on a HD flat screen television. The series has is weak points, but overall it has held up well.

I have an Onkyo receiver TX-SR605 that gets very hot. Would the dual fan chill mat cool it down. Is the fan noisy?
The fan is noisy and it is USB 2.0 powered. Your receiver does not appear to have a USB port that would be required to power this chill fan. It is unlikely that you could use this product for the purpose that you want.

Will this work if my laptop is on my lap, versus a table or desk? I am not at a table or desk many times, so my laptop literally is on my lap most of the time and I want to make sure that is ok.
You will find using this product in your to be very awkward. Because it is made of rigid plastic it has been my experience to not use it in my lap. I use mine on desk with a level surface and it works fine there.
