Love TIVO's interface, easy to get shows to record

This was a good but difficult set up, saved the cost of a cable box as this TIVO uses a cable card. My cable company had to come and set it up so the TIVO box is "paired" with the cable card and you loose the In Demand cannels cable offers, HBO, Stars, Showtime and the other premiere services worked well, but you do loose their On Demand channels using the cable card instead of a cable box. I love TIVO's interface, it really easy to find my recordable programing. All the widgets seem to work very well and the Internet access interface is intuitive and easy to use. you can record 4 different programs at the same time as well as surf internet content.

What's great about it: The XL 4 DVR can record 4 different shows at same time
What's not so great: Tivo's wireless N dongel was just impossible to connect, I had to hardwire connect into my router in another room
I would recommend this to a friend!

Fine picture but use the "Custom" picture setup

This sets was a 2012 model and well discounted. It was well reviewed in all the HT and Video magazines. Generally, I set it up in a rather dark room in the Standard mode, which was a bit too dark for my room. But once you dial in the brightness, contrast and the pictures color balance, it looks and works really great. I have it hooked up to a new TIVO Premiere 4 XL DVR which uses a cable card and not a cable box (so I got rid of one of my cable boxes, too). It came with a THX certification and a set up test program. So using it, I was able to set up the TV's custom features using the supplied THX glasses for optimum brightness, contrast and color balance in my room. It was really easy to do and highly suggested unless you pay for a professional to set it up .

What's great about it: black levels are the best I have seen short of the Kuro
What's not so great: nothing bad stands out really good performance
