From his first album Michael Kiwanuka has been excellent at subtlely giving different genres a twist that hints at their more traditional forms (like the folk stylings of his first album) while adding a contemporary feel. His new album is no different - the influences and feel of '70s soul for example is married with modern touches. On top of that is the way his lyrics look at not only life and love, but commentary about our world and issues like race, manhood, the existence of hope, that are such important topics today. Highly recommended.
