You need to check your motherboard's specifications to see if it supports M.2 SSD technology. It's cutting edge, so if the computer isn't less than a year old, it most likely doesn't support this technology. As far as the operating system goes, hard drives and SSDs have NEVER included their own operating system. You're buying a blank storage device. You can either install a new copy of your preferred operating system using the installation disks or USB drive, or you can clone your current hard drive and transfer the data to your new device. It's much too in depth to explain the cloning process here, but go to Google.com and look up how to clone a hard drive to a new SSD, and you'll find plenty of articles. If it seems too difficult, or if you're not at least an intermediate computer user, I recommend having someone else with the necessary knowledge install the SSD. There are a few thing that you need to know regarding SATA technology in order to properly configure your hard drives when you install an M.2 SSD, like the Samsung 960 M.2 SSD. I hope this helps and good luck!
