There are a few films that are true Christmas classics. The original "Miracle on 34th Street" is one of these memorable classics that features wonderful acting, story, direction and technical elements. Don't miss it!
Tom Hanks' fans know him to be a fantastic actor who can do drama as well as comedy. In "Road to Perdition" he plays a prohibition-era gangster trying to hide his career from his young son. A terrific film with a first class cast and excellent technical elements! Highly recommended!
This quirky, high energy modern re-make of Dicken's "A Christmas Carol" features Bill Murray as a Scroogy TV executive. It's a lot of fun with a great cast, state of the art special effects and other technical elements.
The author of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children admits being inspired by the work of Tim Burton. Of course Tim Burton had to direct it! It has odd children with strange powers, a cool Gothic mansion, fantastic sets, bizarre monsters and a fantastic soundtrack! What more could fans of Tim Burton want? One of my favorite films of 2016, and it looks fantastic in 3-D!!
Most movie remakes pale in comparison to the original. The Japanese original, "The Seven Samurai" is a true action classic. The first American re-make, "The Magnificent Seven" was excellent and is a western classic as well. The latest remake retains all the elements of classic westerns with all the modern technical bells and whistles, an first class cast and very well directed. Highly recommended!
There are a lot of good elements in 2016's remake of the classic Ghostbusters. The cast and technical elements (camerawork, sets, costumes, special effects, music) are terrific. The problem with remaking a film considered a classic is trying to equal or better it. The story and humor just can't compare with the original, but it is still a lot of fun.
Howard the Duck was considered a bomb in the '80's but has gone on to become a cult classic. It's an odd mixture of comic book story and action, sci-fi elements, talented cast, excellent production design and special effects by ILM. A lot of fun if you like the quirky and bizarre!
