Top performing radar detector

This radar detector has outstanding performance (better than anything else out there besides the Uniden R3 which is an R1 with GPS), excellent false alert filtering, is undetectable by radar detector detectors, has a color OLED display that can be set to many different colors, and is receiving regular firmware updates and improvements from Uniden, making the detector even better and better over time.
I consider this to be the best highway & backroad radar detector under $300. It will do a great job of giving you plenty of advanced warning while also filtering out those annoying radar based blind spot monitoring systems in many modern cars. (Hondas, Acuras, and GM vehicles will punch through the filters as they do with every other radar detector.) However, it offers one of the best filters around, plus the ability to control the sensitivity if you're getting too much performance, heh.
If you do a lot of driving on not only the highway but also in the city, I would recommend you take a look at its big brother the R3. The R3 does everything the R1 can do, but it also adds a GPS chip which is extremely helpful. You can teach it what's a false alert (just double press the mute button) when you're near a speed sign or a drugstore's automatic door opener and it will learn and filter those false alerts for you in the future. It can automatically mute the detector at low speeds when you're stuck in traffic or sitting at a stop light. The R1 can't do that so you'll be busy hitting the mute button a lot in town. The R3 can also alert you to redlight camera and speedcameras as well, thanks to the GPS chip. However, if you don't need these extra features or you don't mind hitting the mute button when you're in urban areas, save the $100 and go for the R1.
If you drive primarily on the highway, if you're often in rural areas where you don't care as much about stationary falses and you want to focus on performance, or you love spirited drive down backroads and again are looking for the highest level of protection to keep your driver's license safe, pick up an R1.

Outstanding radar detector!

This detector is fantastic! It's got the longest range out of any detector on the market at any price. It has excellent false alert filtering, lots of useful features, and is more capable than detectors that cost hundreds of dollars more. I've got a whole bunch of detectors and this is the one I run day to day because it offers me the highest level of protection.
The range is outstanding so if you're looking at giving yourself the very best shot at detecting radar before the cop ahead can pick you up, this is the one to get.
The K band filter can filter out most blind spot monitoring false alerts (Honda/Acura/GM are the main exceptions.. no detector can filter out those yet), it has a GPS chip (unlike the Uniden R1) which lets you quiet the detector down when driving through town at low speeds, you can double press the mute button when you encounter a false alert from a speed sign or nearby automatic door opener and it'll learn and remember that signal so it mutes it for you in the future, and it can alert you to nearby redlight cameras and speed cameras.
Finally, unlike most other detectors on the market, it is also undetectable by radar detector detectors.
This detector has proved extremely popular among radar detector enthusiasts and is generally the one I recommend. What about other detectors to consider? You've got the V1 and Max360 if you want arrows (yes the R3 can pick up signals from all directions too.. it just can't tell you if the signal is ahead or behind). The Max360 or Redline EX can also learn where stationary false alerts are around town like the R3, but unlike the R3 which requires you to manually teach it what's a false alert in the beginning, the Escorts can learn and filter those out automatically, hands-free, after you pass by them several times. There's also remote detectors available like the Net Radar and Stinger VIP if you don't want something mounted on your windshield.
There's lots of excellent detectors available on the market. However, for the highest level of protection and an all-around excellent radar detector, the Uniden R3 is the one to get.
