This album landed on the scene like a bomb, if one will pardon the pun, and at least for this listener, it didn't sound like "dookie". A refreshing blend of introspective vocals accompanied by a unique sound, Green Day is a band that resonates with substance. Every song on this album is a joy to listen to, which is a feat few bands accomplish.
Classic Metallica here. The angry guitar riffs are accompanied perfectly by Hetfield's angry vocals. Metal in its pure form, this album will rock any fan of the genre.
The title track is my standout favorite from the album, delivered in a frenetic pace in what became Metallica's signature sound. If you like Metallica or metal, then this is a no-brainer.
Pat Benatar is without doubt an amazing vocal talent. While her frame is slight, her voice is anything but. Powerful, emotional, and gripping - it is always a pleasure to listen to her music.
A legend in the world of rock and popular music, especially during the 1980's, Pat brings a passion to her craft that makes her music timeless. No one is making music like this anymore, and the world is lesser for it.
"American Hustle" has a lot of moving pieces and is smartly told. The ensemble cast was stellar as one might expect, with Jennifer Lawrence giving an almost scary performance as the wife of Bale's character. This was not the Jennifer I had become used to from her other roles.
Recommend to anyone who is seeking a complex tale with complex characters. If you are looking for a summer popcorn action movie, then this is not for you.
This movie details the rise and eventual fall of the landmark rap group NWA. Solid performances throughout bring this tale to life. At times poignant, other times sad, but always grounded.
Giamatti was "greasy" as the controversial Jerry Heller and his exchange with Eric Wright (Eazy E) near the end could have used some editing (he repeats himself during the exchange), but otherwise another standout performance from him.
Recommend this movie for anyone remotely interested in the subject matter. It can also stand on its own due to its historical significance and impact on hip-hop music in general.
Prince's sequel to Purple Rain, Graffiti Bridge comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Stereo. English, Spanish, and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include the original theatrical trailer and a handful of music videos. The film certainly looks and sounds great on this disc making it worthwhile for Prince fans.
While the movie plot itself is bare and lacking in any true character development, the music in this movie and all performances are top-notch. I don't watch this looking for a dramatic masterpiece. I watch this for all the awesome music, presented as various music videos within the over-arching theme of the movie itself.
After the aberration that served as Deadpool in the previous "Wolverine" movies, this version of the character finally captures the essense of Wade Wilson. Not only that, but it showcases the best representation of the "X-men's" Colossus as well.
This movie is recommended. The tease of a sequel at the end leaves the viewer with anticipation for that follow-up effort.
Full disclosure - Lifelong Prince fan here. I own every Prince album released to the general public until now.
Like all Prince releases, I don't need a review to know I want it. One of the rare artists who hold this distinction for me. That said, "HitNRun" was just "OK" for me. No track stood out for me, yet I don't regret the purchase or the listen.
I recommend this only for die-hard Prince fans like myself. Selected "no" for whether I'd recommend to a friend or not, because I don't have any hardcore Prince fans among my friends.
Overall this was an entertaining movie. The main villain in this installment (Ultron) was not menacing or evil enough in my opinion, but there was enough fun to be had here to still recommend the movie.
The interactions between the characters were at times odd and touching (see Hulk and Black Widow), but I feel there were missed opportunities for more character development throughout.
