A Fine Send Off for Phife Dawg

A powerful collaboration and mix of styles

This album is essentially a promotion for the Prophets of Rage tour and it really delivers as a primer to a great concert experience. The price is right and the sound quality is good. There is no lull in the performance, just straight rock, rap, and rage! I was particularly impressed with B. Real's delivery of some of Zack's lyrics. Not the same, but definitely faithful and respectful. I highly encourage you to see this tour if given the chance. High energy all the way, bits of every piece of Rage, Public Enemy, and Cyprus Hill that you would want.

A Step Forward and A Welcome Return

I can't recommend this album enough to long time fans of De La Soul. The Anonymous Nobody has it all. Today's hip hop isn't afraid to use live instrumentation and put unique musicianship on display. This album has smooth, original music that is nods to their styles of the past while managing to be current. The album has a loose concept that it follows, but it isn't married to it so much that it takes away from individual tracks. There are a lot of interesting guest artists who contribute to the album. My only complaint, and it is a small one, is that I wish there was a spotlight on Maseo's DJ skills somewhere on the album. I am a big fan of cutting and scratching skills and Maseo is a favorite.

Going deep with a Classic Artist

If you are reading this, then you are probably already a Prince fan. You are wondering if this album is worth owning. My prince collection started with 1999 but I never went back to his earlier albums. After his passing, as a show of respect, I decided to try one of his albums that I haven't heard before other than the hits. I have purchased every prince album since 1999, but this album stands out because you can see him crafting his sound and growing as an artist. It's hard to imagine that Prince played every note of every instrument on this album, wrote all the songs, sang every note, and produced it. It's amazing. The songs are short, sweet and follow the Prince formula of embracing r&b, funk, pop, and rock. A formula that would define the 80's. The songs are great, but my only complaint is that the instruments seemed to be mixed higher than the vocals. Prince's voice is so distinct but on this album it blends a little too much. A classic album, worth adding to your collection.

A Modern Soul Classic from A Master of the art

I have been a Maxwell fan since I first saw his video and heard his music for Ascension (Don't Ever Wonder). His first two albums are not only my favorites of his, but two of my all time favorites. I waited so long for the first part of the BLACKsummer'snight and was not disappointed. Yes, Maxwell doesn't focus on a consistent vibe through a whole album like his early work but what he continues from the last album is focused songwriting. Every song shows that love, time, and craftsmanship went into them. There are songs to dance to, cry to, think to, and of course, make love to. If you are already a fan, what are you waiting for. If you are just discovering Maxwell, then you are in for a great journey of discovery.

This album is a refreshing change up for Filter away from the Modern Hard/Alt rock sound that they have used to get radio play. This album is at once aggressive (a consistent sound for Filter) and transitioning. I say Transitioning because there is an instrumental track that shows some electronic music leanings that have always been present, but not featured like it is in this album. It's not my favorite Filter album, but it is definitely worth repeated listens. Perfect for exercising playlists.

I have used these headphones as my "Gym or workout" headphones for years. There was finally an upgrade that makes them fit your ear even better than before and this upgrade prevents wire tangles. These are not for audiophiles, but the sound is perfectly adequate for their purpose. As long as Sony makes them, I will probably use them.

It's a cover album, but an interesting effort

Unfortunately the story behind this album might be more interesting than the actual results. First of all, I am a long time Ryan Adams fan and not a Taylor Swift fan. Of course, I have a casual awareness of her music mostly from award shows and hype so listening to this album the first time through, I wasn't very familiar with the source material. I have since rectified this oversight. The story behind this album, as far as I have read: Ryan Adams was splitting up with his wife and while on tour listened to Taylor Swifts 1989 album as his "break up" album. This is a very common thing for a music lover to do. Ryan would cover a song off of the album and would tweet or Instagram the results to Taylor Swift. She was flattered and loved it and encouraged more so he eventually covered the entire album. So now, that I have that precursor out of the way. I like the album, but it isn't a typical Ryan Adams because I just can't believe his delivery of the lyrics. I appreciate the artistic exercise and know that this album will probably age much better than the material that inspired it. This isn't essential Ryan Adams, but if you are a collector, it is a fun album that shows this artist can almost do no wrong. ALMOST.
