Well, it works but....

The GPS does not seem to be accurate. When taking some exits it recommends, it recalculates. The full screen live cameras do not display. It cannot find traffic cameras on my route that is programmed in. Voice commands produce strange results. The smartphone app keeps disconnecting, the app says disconnected, but the Garmin still thinks it is connected. Will be driving a truck soon, hope those features work correctly. If these issues can be fixed, the review would be better. The traffic camera problem really annoys me because I had to pay extra for it. The live traffic is better than HD, but nowhere near as good as the Waze app.

how many channels are necessary for a good gps

I've noticed some have 12 channels, 1 channel, no channels?? I thought channels were needed to locate satillites?
Not sure how many channels are needed. You need 3 satellites for basic position, but 4 if you want altitude. On a Garmin you can see the reception status by first pressing the speed tab which brings up the statistics screen. On the top, hold your finger on the speed display for about 10 seconds. This will bring you to the diagnostics page. DO NOT CHANGE ANY SETTINGS UNLESS YOU ARE SURE WHAT YOU ARE DOING. You can safely choose Developer Info, then Satellite Status to see which satellites your Garmin can see.
