We were looking for a small freezer to supplement our bottom freezer which can't handle things like large pizzas or Christmas hams. This does it all! The shelves are stationary, yet generous. There is a narrow top edge that holds all the ice packs for us (or a pizza) the shelves themselves are white heavy duty plastic edges with white coated wire centers.(narrow gaps so nothing falls through) giving a clean look overall. This freezer has worked perfectly for us, even being in the garage in the heat of a southern summer! I don't have it set to max (3/4 of the way) and the ice cream is rock hard. Our utility bill is running about $2.50 more per month. In all, we are happy the we found this unit! (We had to ask about it; there wasn't anything on display to let us know BB sells small freezers)

What are the measured spaces between shelves?
I saw the shelf themselves measure 13 x 15 or 16 inches. Just wondering if anyone could tell me the measured space between each of the shelves? In other words the "height" of the storage spaces on each shelf.
Between top and first shelf 2". First to second shelf:7". All remaining (3) shelves: 9.5 " Hope this helps!

My 6 mo old 5.0 Insignia Freezer has quite a bit of frost in it. Is that normal?
Per the instruction book and my science background, the answer is yes if you are having humid, hot weather. It will dissipate (go away) when the weather cools....

Can this freezer operate in an unheated garage - range of temperatures would be approximately 40 degrees to 85 degrees?
My answer would be a definite yes. Our unit has worked fine and we have had many 90 plus degree days here in Carolina! I don't even have the unit set to max; only 3/4 of the way gives rock hard ice cream.( it's currently 96 degrees for the 4th day in a row)
