Stellar sound & Comfortable fit
on October 19, 2020
Posted by: GrizzlyD
from Clayton, NC
These headphones have a great sound and a very comfortable fit. Super easy to setup...just plug in the usb dongle and you're off.
I tinkered with the EQ settings, which were a bit confusing because nothing really tells you what the various beeps mean. But all in all they have a great sound regardless of the setting. The bass is good and the depth of sound even better. I used the dolby atmos plugin and got some really good audio in Overwatch.
The mic is nice how the boom up or down controls the mute. So just pull the boom down and the mic activates.
Overall I would highly recommend these. They aren't too expensive, they fit great, and they sound great too!

Nice design, audio falls short
on October 9, 2020
Posted by: GrizzlyD
from Clayton, NC
The lenovo smart clock has a Big, bright and has easy-to-read LED display that allows you to choose between 3 levels of brightness. As with any Google Home compatible device, you can use voice control to set alarms, timers and reminders, get translations, just by starting with “Hey Google”. You can cast music, audiobooks, radio and podcasts from your phone or play it directly using the Google Home compatible apps. One unique feature of this device is that you can charge a smart watch or a phone on the included USB-port.
It has a stylish design with a mesh fabric chassis and huge vibrant display. My only real complaint is that due to its diminutive size there is very little depth to the audio quality on this device. So listening to music is not the greatest on it.
Overall, it's a pretty good alarm clock and brings with it a plethora of features and functionality thanks to the Google home ecosystem. I would recommend for the bedside.

Great way to convert phone to Xbox Controller!
on September 28, 2020
Posted by: GrizzlyD
from Clayton, NC
With game streaming becoming more and more popular and Microsoft about to launch Project X Cloud, the need for a way to turn your mobile device into a game controller is growing stronger. Enter the Razer Kishi.
This device is basically a set of controls for your phone. It cradles the phone and gives you xbox controller like controls directly on your mobile device.
I spent some time testing it both on Project X Cloud and in-home streaming direct from my console. It worked flawlessly!! I cradled a Google Pixel 4 into the device and it fit like a glove.
Biggest complaint is the lack of charging capability. If this device were to act like a mobile charger it would be HUGE, and make it well worth the retail price. However, it only currently offer pass-through charging. So you'll still need a cord if you're running low on juice.
Also, it folds up into a small enough package for transport. Nothing tiny, but small enough to fit into most bag pockets.
The responsiveness of the controls was good, and the controller behaved really no differently than a typically game controller would. I would highly recommend this to people who are considering doing mobile gaming and game streaming!

Robot Vacuums still need work
on September 19, 2020
Posted by: GrizzlyD
from Clayton, NC
I'd love to say they've finally gotten it right after all these years, but overall they are still more of a pain than they are a benefit. To be clear, I've owned past Roomba robots, Neato robots, and Samsung robots. It's a great concept and all have their own redeeming qualities, but none really truly fill the void of just doing it yourself.
First, the setup was a piece of cake. It was up and running in minutes and the interface in the app is pretty slick. I very much like the Google Home integration. I like that I was able to name the vacuum and Google Home recognized the name.
It charges pretty quick and is able to get back up and running in no time. It seems as though it can get around and do its job for about an hour on a full charge.
It's pathing is still a bit reckless and I find it's still not very smart about the way in which it gets around. The Roomba brand was always a bit bad about this. It basically runs around in circles bumping into things and if it gets one wheel lifted up on a threshold/object while the other is down it will just sit and run and run until the battery dies. By comparison the Neato uses a bit more logic and does a better job of being less reckless with its pathing. But at the end of the day the major failing of all robot vacuums is that they simply get hung up in a space they don't belong in and ultimately run out of juice or stop and you're left going to find them and put them back on their charger by yourself, and then finish the job with a regular vacuum.
This particular model is nice in that it comes with a trash bin and it will empty itself. However, the trash bin is a bit large and finding a space for the device in your home is a real bother....no one wants to see these unsightly things sitting out in the open.
The vacuum is a bit noisy, but not overbearing. But the trash bin is VERY loud and a real nuisance if you have it in a common space.
Ultimately if you have a space where the vacuum can roam free and there are no table/chair legs, or cords, or dog toys, or entertainment centers or basically any typical home furniture then your experience is going to be fantastic. But if your home is normal and filled with obstructions, furniture, thresholds and stairs then you may consider just sticking with a normal vacuum until they can teach these things to open closet doors and get themselves out of a jam.

Great Display on a Budget
on September 19, 2020
Posted by: GrizzlyD
from Clayton, NC
Not much to say here other than it's a really good display for a budget gamer. It has nice brightness and response time. I was unable to enable G-Sync on it using my laptop, but it does claim to support FreeSync. It offers HDMI, DisplayPort, and a microphone out port. The built-in templates for FPS and whatnot were not as good as the standard setting. Overall they just ruined the color palette. So you're best to just leave it at standard. I noticed no apparent tearing while playing on it at 144hz. Worth a look if you just need a basic curved gaming display.

Spacious, easy to clean
on September 16, 2020
Posted by: GrizzlyD
from Clayton, NC
This air fryer offers a spacious and easy to clean interior. I made some hand cut fries and buffalo wings in it and it did a really good job of crisping them up and leaving them flavorful. It did seem to take a little longer than it suggested to cook wings, but the fryer basket gives you a lot of air circulation to get products cooked but keep them moist.
Cleaning is as easy as pulling out the racks and using soap and water. The only real con is the size of the device and how it is vented. It vents up and out the back, and considering it's intended for countertop use it could cook the underside of your cabinets if you're not careful. It has a large footprint and takes up a fair amount of counter space.
I like that it's not just an air fryer but also can be used to cook mini pizzas, make toast, bake various foods, etc.

Well designed wheel, No UWP/PC Game Pass Support
on September 2, 2020
Posted by: GrizzlyD
from Clayton, NC
Was super excited to get my hands on this wheel. The wheel was packed very nicely in the box and came with some good instructions on getting it setup. It's of a very high construction quality as it feels nice and rigid but comfortable to hold. Setup was a breeze!
However, I wanted to primarily play on my PC, and that's where things went sideways. I have a Windows 10 PC and I pay for Xbox Game Pass on my PC which affords me access to several racing games. I eagerly installed them all and tried to use the G Hub to configure the wheel for the game...no dice! I loaded the games and they saw the wheel was connected, but had no config for it.
I poured over some forum posts trying to figure out what was going on only to discover that G Hub is incapable of seeing through the hidden folders and security associated with Windows UWP apps...meaning anything from the Windows Store or Game Pass. I noted that this was an ongoing problem for many years with all manner of devices from Logitech. One would have thought that they could have worked out some arrangement with Microsoft to get the G Hub to be able to read those game folders and apply the configs.
I'm sure if I was using Steam or just a straight base install it would have been fine. But my dreams of racing on my PC were done.
We switched it over to the Xbox One and it played quite well. The force feedback was strong and really improved the feel and experience of racing. I'd say the only concern here with Xbox gaming would be with regards to your setup and location. The only place we could really test it was in my son's room where the xbox is quite close to a surface we could mount the wheel to. Otherwise you're just out of luck because there is no playing with this on the floor or lap. So if your xbox is too far away from you or you don't have a nice solid flat surface to mount it you'll be out of luck.
Overall it's a great wheel that still needs driver/software help to be functional. I wish Logitech would have sorted this considering it's such a costly device. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone at this time due to these concerns.

Uncertain Purpose
on August 28, 2020
Posted by: GrizzlyD
from Clayton, NC
Easy to setup, not so easy to get connected to to Google Home. I tried a few times but it just didn't work. It gives good amounts of data, but to what end? Most of the problems it detects there is nothing I can do about....Above avg CO2??? Guess I should just stop exhaling?
They recommend I open a window, but the other alerts are that my higher room temperature of 76'F is causing higher humidity which would not be helped at all by an open window in North Carolina.
Overall I think it's interesting data, but nothing highly actionable. I think this would be far more useful in a business than here in my home.
I wouldn't recommend the purchase at this price point. Someone will do this cheaper at some point.

Quick and simple chopper
on July 24, 2020
Posted by: GrizzlyD

It's a good little chopper. Charges up quickly and does a good job at chopping up veggies. I like it's size because I can pull it out and quickly get the job done without having to deal with the larger processor or cords. It will save a few mins here or there.
Using it to chop peppers and onions though it didn't do a great job at chopping a large number at one time. I had to only put a small amount in at one time. Any more and to get it all chopped it ended up more of a puree. This is just something you have to account for.

Excellent solution for a rural customer
on May 12, 2020

from Clayton, NC
Before we installed the weBoost our cell signal inside or outside the house for AT&T was one bar or less. The signal strength was around -120db and very often the phone indicated it was not attached to the network. It was impossible to use any internet data functions such as browser.
The weBoost came with professional installation, a link was provided inside the box with a code that is used to schedule the installation; it was very easy to use. The techs from On Tech came out the next day and did a very nice job of installing the equipment, I should add they wore face masks and shoe protection inside the house. They ran a tester outside that showed each of the major carrier’s towers, data capability, and the signal strength. They then mounted the outside antenna on the house pointed towards the best tower that supported our carrier. They mounted the inside equipment in the house to provide the optimum coverage inside.
After the weBoost install was completed I had 5 bars on each cell phone tested, had clear signal on the voice calls made. The signal strength showed around -80db and speed testing indicated over 5 MB download speed and 4 MB upload, data speed was excellent using the internet data functions of the phone.

Nothing puts a vacuum to the test quite like a home with pets. That's why the BISSELL® Pet Hair Eraser® was developed from the ground up by pet parents for pet parents. Whether it's shedding season for your dog or your cat tracks kitty litter all over the house, this revolutionary vacuum is designed to make cleaning up after pets and the people who love them a breeze—from beginning to end. Say goodbye to hair wrap with its Tangle-Free Brush Roll, remove embedded hair everywhere with specialized pet tools, help capture allergens and eliminate odors with the SmartSeal™ Allergen System, and when you're finished cleaning, enjoy a hands-free tank empty with our patented Cyclonic Spooling System™.BR>

How load is it? I've used an Oreck XL upright and a Eureka Mighty Mite and would hope it's no louder as those. I prefer bagged vacuums but want to try the BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser because of its claims of not getting hair tangled on the roller.

It's louder than my Dyson DC28. I wouldn't say its outrageously loud, but it's got a bit of a high pitch whine to it.

What is the refresh rate?

there is no refresh rate/response time on an OLED. the pixels are instant on/off. however, there is input lag on the hdmi ports with post processing turned on. i've seen no problems with gaming on the cinema preset. if it's something that concerns you, you can simply turn on game more which disables a lot of post processing lag. but again, my assessment is that it's a moot point.

will this TV benefit from Geek Squad Calibration?

Got this TV several months ago. Think the picture is good, but not significantly better than my 2 yr. old Samsung. Got differing opinions from sales mgr. & geek tech when I asked this Q, then read calibration review from a customer on another LG TV saying the LG he had actually got worse with the Geek Squad Calibration. I don't want to waste my $, but want to make sure I'm getting the best picture I can now that I've invested the $ I did buying it. Any info out there re: 65" LG OLED 4K flat screen calibration?
make certain you're running the latest firmware from the website. the auto updater in the us isn't working properly. it's up to 4.20.75 as of today. i performed a calibration on it, and ultimately decided to go back to the preset Cinema settings. I for one prefer the brightness that comes with this preset. The colors out of the box are pretty spot on, and I actually like the Soap Opera Effect.

Try these calibration settings before blowing several hundred dollars on one: http://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/lg-65ef9500-picture-settings/

but know that those settings will drastically reduce brightness.
