17mm is 34mm on a micro four thirds sensor and almost 51mm on a super 16mm sensor. It makes a great wide angle street lens on a panasonic or olympus body. I use it as a standard video lens on a blackmagic pocket cinema camera. The focus ring has 2 settings that can be changed like a clutch. In auto it is focus by wire that spins infinitely. In manual mode there is a distance guage and hard stops. Very versatile and useful. Not to mention fast and sharp image in a golf ball sized lens.

The perfect walkaround lens. Extended range. Image stabilization is awesome with the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. There is almost no lens flaring. There is very little that this lens cannot do. I use it for portraits, interviews, wide walkatound and closeups.

Long length for portrait use. Great for NOT making people uncomfortable when taking pictures since you dont need to be close to them. And because the lens and camera system is small, that minimizes intimidation as well.
The autofocus is FAST and silent. Great for stills and video.
This lens is NOT appropriate for people wanting to shoot in tight spaces, you need room with this bad boy.
Dont even try to capture children moving close up, they wont comply. Get something wider like a 17.5mm (35mm full frame equivalent) for kids and tight spaces.
Also, the Bokeh (depth of field) is so shallow (professional) you can blur out undesired backgrounds at will, but be careful, taking group photos will require subjects to be in the same plane or close to it. But that is not unique to this lens alone, but rather the aperture and range of all lenses like this.
I would recommend the 25mm 1.7 as a second lens and THEN this lens as the third. The 25mm will be used more often.

4k future proofing for less!

Its a baby GH4 that has been had several features chopped off. You cannot combine HDR and time lapse. It does not output clean HDMI. It cannot do slow motion. But the biggest frustration is the DELIBERATE placemeny of the battery and memory card slot on the bottom, discouraging essential tripod use.
But i enjoy the in camera time lapse, the flat color profiles, RAW photos, full controls with several customizable buttons. The menus are awesome.
This is my first interchangeable lens camera and lens selection is key, addictive and expensive! But worth future proofing my videos with 4k.

Is Joby Ballhead X for sale at Best Buy in Bellingham?
The Joby Focus tripod is for sale and the natural accessory is the Ballhead X for stability. There is no mention of the Ballhead X in Tripod or Camera Accessories.
I dont know about store availability.
But keep in mind that this tripod is Manfrotto based bowl system. Not Joby.
All bowls systems allow for quicker setup and adjustment time.
