I thought I would blind buy this movie on the strength of the first film, and the 80s style I saw in the trailers. This proved to be one of those times when a blind buy was totally worth it. I have watched this movie about 5 times in the month ince I bought it, and that never happens for me. It’s rather short (less than 90min—unheard of these days), but makes repeat viewings easy and fun.

The exclusive steelbook art didn’t feel worthwhile this time. The inclusion of the plastic slipcover was nice though. I actually bought this a few days after release and there were still a few left instore.

This was my favorite Marvel movie yet. Nuff said about that...
I have purchased almost all the MCU steelbooks since Avengers Age of Ultron, and I only missed out on the first few MCU steels because of the inclusion of the 3D disc. But I paid for it anyway after awhile because the packaging was too cool to resist.
In this case, the release was 4k/bluray. I don’t hve a UHD TV or player so I paid the inflated price, admittedly for the cool art and the regular bluray disc, early on release day. I came back to the store later and all the steelbooks were sold out.

I will write this in the least spoilery way possible.
This movie is entertaining, but the writing is sloppy and there are moments that *should* have happened but did not. I am not a fanboy whose childhood got ruined, just a person who enjoys good movies. This one wasn’t great. Too many “social commentary” moments that may be fine by you if you agree, but not fine if you disagree.

Now about the packaging— this is a steelbook, and it was decent enough, but somewhat inconsistent with the other Star Wars steels on my shelf. The spine matched The Force Awakens but the front was more like movie poster art than a closeup of a single character like all the rest. It’s a minor gripe, but kind of obnoxious. At least that part is consistent with the film.

This is not television--this is a really long, really cool sci-fi western film. The acting, the effects, and the direction are all top notch. Some episodes are more eventful than others, but this season is quite a ride. Just a note for parents out there--lots of nudity and violence is involved, so keep your children away.

As somewhat of a horror flick aficionado, I initially felt that a remake/reboot of the Stephen King classic made-for-tv movie IT (1990) would be the same kind of trainwreck that Hollywood churns out on a regular basis. What we got instead, was a well-crafted monster movie for our times. All 1980s "Stranger Things" style nostalgia aside, I do feel that the filmmakers did justice to the source material and proved they could create a much more menacing Pennywise than we saw with the old Tim Curry incarnation. After watching some of the special features, I really gained extra appreciation for what Bill Skarsgard brought to the part. From the prominent lower lip drool to the lazy eye gone awry, it goes to show that this was the only man for the job. Oh yeah, the steelbook was quite nice as well.

I think my favorite scene in this flick involves a bouncer at a night club being thrown into the street, getting his head smashed by a lowrider as it bounces by. Yes, this is the kind of movie Blood Diner is-- it just doesn't care. The lead actors are ridiculous, but I enjoyed them. I mean, they take marching orders from their deceased uncle's brain in a jar. There's lots of gore and nudity, unhinged over-the-top nonsense-- I couldn't help but kind of love this goofball of a movie. If this kind of thing floats your boat, why not treat yourself?

I watched this movie with low expectations, as others who I know had seen it and considered Chud 2 an absolute waste of time. Usually when I expect the worst in a movie, it is possible to be pleasantly surprised-- and this was one of those cases, kind of. I bought this movie because I am collecting the whole Vestron Collectors Series, and this was definitely not among the best Lionsgate has released in the series. But as long as you are able to turn off your brain, you may be entertained for a while. Keep in mind, the script to this movie was originally written as a Return of the Living Dead sequel, but got rebranded somewhere in the process into a goofy take on CHUDs-- none of which are underground. If you (like myself) enjoy glorious examples of inept filmmaking, you should give this a chance.

As a fan of the original 1999 found footage classic, and a fan of Adam Wingard's previous genre films-- I figured this idea was a match made in heaven. Unfortunately, this new rendition of the Blair Witch story made some mistakes that didn't help the film measure up to the original. First, having Heather's MUCH younger brother and his group of polished, model agency looking friends just didn't seem justified in going out into the woods to search for a sibling who had been missing for over 20 years. The whole thing just didn't feel authentic as a found footage movie, and my opinion is that it was just too Hollywood. The whole thing was just one bad decision after another, on the part of the creative decision making. I still gave it a few stars because it wasn't completely horrible-- but it was much too reliant on jump scares and trite, redundant storytelling.

Cool Goonies era retro horror

The 1980s were a special time. It was a time of practical effects with occasional stop motion animation, and a day when playing records backwards drove parents into a "satanic panic." The Gate is a relic of this mystical magical time, following a group of kids who do '80s things with '80s consequences-- and if you're like me, that kind of thing has great re-watch value.
