Native American history got the Disney treatment in this biography aimed at younger audiences. Adam Beach stars as Squanto, an Eastern Massachusetts native of the 17th century, who befriends the English settlers who are starting to colonize the region. Naively trusting his new friends, Squanto and his best friend Epenow (Eric Schweig) offer to help some sailors load a vessel that's departing for England. The two Indians are shanghaied and taken across the ocean to serve as sideshow attractions for the greedy owner (Michael Gambon) of the shipping line. Squanto quickly escapes and finds refuge in a nearby cloister, where he is protected by the kindly monks, in particular Brother Daniel (Mandy Patinkin), who teaches Squanto to speak English. Squanto learns of a ship carrying more settlers to the New World, so he stows away and returns to his homeland, where he finds that his village has been wiped out by disease brought by the colonists. Nevertheless, Squanto brokers a peace deal between his hostile brothers and the settlers, and they celebrate the first Thanksgiving together. Beach went on to star in the Native American drama Smoke Signals (1998).

Six Days, Seven Nights features an excellent 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer. The picturesque greenery, rocky cliffs, and sparkling blue water of the tropical island setting all appear bright and focused, with only a few instances of grain and dirt on the print. The 5.1-channel Dolby Digital audio track is also sharp. The upbeat music moves well through the entire range of the speakers, and gunshots reverberate powerfully from the front speakers. A Dolby Digital French-language track is also available. On the downside, this DVD is a bare-bones release that lacks any notable extra features. It does contain the theatrical trailer in a decent widescreen transfer (along with some laughable recommendations -- Metro and Nothing to Lose -- that have little in common with this film), plus English subtitles and 23 chapter cues. While the Six Days, Seven Nights DVD is technically impressive, it would be improved immensely with better supplemental materials. Even a simple "on location" featurette or fluffy cast interviews would help considerably.

Stephen Herek's adaptation of The Three Musketeers comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. An English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, and a French soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Stereo. There are no subtitles, but the English soundtrack is closed-captioned. Supplemental materials include a making-of featurette and Bryan Adams, Sting, and Rod Stewart's hit single from the movie, "All for Love." This is an average disc from Disney/Buena Vista.

Package description: Swing into action and adventure with Disney's original classic, Tarzan, packed with fun-filled bonus features and award-winning music such as the memorable "You'll Be in My Heart" and "Trashin' the Camp." Disney's magnificent animated adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' story of the ape man begins deep within the jungle when baby Tarzan is adopted by a family of gorillas. Even though he is shunned as a "hairless wonder" by their leader, Tarzan is accepted by the gorillas and raised as one of their own. Together with his wisecracking ape buddy Terk and neurotic elephant pal Tantor, Tarzan learns how to "surf" and swing through the trees and survive in the animal kingdom. His "two worlds" collide with the arrival of humans, forcing Tarzan to choose between a "civilized" life with the beautiful Jane and the life he knows and loves with his gorilla family. Filled with humor, heart and hilarious fun, Tarzan is an unforgettable adventure you'll watch again and again.

Charles Haid's adventure film Iron Will comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. An English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Surround, while Spanish and French soundtracks have been recorded in Dolby Digital Stereo. Spanish and French subtitles are accessible, and the English soundtrack is closed-captioned. There are no supplemental materials of any consequence, but this Disney/Buena Vista release does offer excellent picture quality.
