A Typical Ridley Scott Outing

My review is based on the dvd, since my blu-ray player has no remote.
The movie itself is fun though predictable, since we all know how it eventually ends: Alien.
This movie plays with the mythos created by Dan O'Bannon's hardcore sequel to his and John Carpenter's Dark Star. The result, originally titled Star Beast, eventually was re-titled Alien after extensive re-writes by (David) Giler, with input by (Walter) Hill and Gordon (no android avatar...yet) Carroll.
This is a deeper exploration into the alien lifestyle, with some devastating death sequences, much better in the end than the much-maligned Prometheus.
I prefer this over the prequel, though some of the alien infants look too thin and fragile. That don't last long, though.
The characters are well drawn and don't do as many stupid things as their Prometheus predecessors.
For that, and for creating more Gigeresque aliens, I give it 5 stars, but subtract 1 for making David the unholy annihilator of an entire species of humanoid, and creator of the xebomorphs. And that terrible bowl cut for the current 'Ripley'.
Quite a fascinating, refreshing and downright terrifying film.

Almost As Good As The Original - Yeeeah!!!

This follow-up to John Wick sees Keanu Reeves back in fine form as a retired contract killer who, upon breaking an indenture to another killer in line for head of the Italian Mob - if his sister 'steps down' - finds himself at odds with every international killer on the planet, literally.
After a harrowing run-in with assassins in Italy, following the destruction of his home by his former benefactor, John has to lay low for awhile as he soon breaks the ultimate rule among assassins. I won't give much away except to say the exceptional underworld touched upon in part one now has clear-cut rules in the mode of Highlander, which this clearly borrows rule No.1 from: No spilling blood on sacred ground.
Go find this one. I bought it sight unseen, based on my love for Part 1, which I found at the Ballard Library. Well worth your time!

This is the Wolvie movie that shames The Wolverine. That movie was a lot of fun: Yuriko, fast action, ninja! What more could you ask for?
How bout Caliban, cyborgs, new mutants, beheadings, endless f-bombs (Wolvie AND Prof!), desert refuge, skanky motels AND verdant wilderness?!
Can you say, "So this is what it feels like,"? I knew you could.

Hoo boy, it had to happen! You knew EVENTUALLY they were gonna pull these guys outta mothballs and- it's FUN!! Far more fun than I thought it was gonna be! I bought this on impulse and honestly, I can say this fulfills three criteria:
1. It respects the original actors.
2. It respects the original show. And
3. It respects the audience.
It offers the old style, has actors who are a great equivalent to the departed actors (Adam, Burt and Julie are still alive AND active) , plus it addresses ALL THREE CATWOMEN in a great tease shot!
If you don't buy this animated wonder, you at least owe it to yourself to rent or check it out from the library.
I left off one star because the extras are kind of thin, but it's the movie that counts. I want more!
Do yourself a favor! You won't be disappointed. Grab some Mr. Pibb, a stack of Reese's and TAKE OFF!!!

This side splitting release from the classic sitcom Gilligan's Island includes all 98 episodes of the show, following the ongoing antics of a mismatched group of tourists, stranded together on one desert island when their three hour tour aboard the S.S. Minnow goes awry.

Every episode, all three seasons, is included in this set, plus commentary on some eps, and a few more extras.
I olny wish they'd updated the set to include tributes to the departed actors (Dawn and Tina are still alive), plus the Filmation cartoons.
Overall, though, I'm satisfied!

Not as good as T1 & 2, but better than 3 & Genisys

Let's be real here: I've been waiting for the Future War movie since T1 came out, and got this- the closest we've been; then we got Genisys, the time-displacement movie. Alright, fair enough. Now, if they could just go back in time, cut-and-paste the war scenes from all five theatrical movies (not counting the tv show or the cg-animated internet Salvation Machinima, though it was edited into a feature, so there are 6), plus the time machine bit, we'd have a more complete version of the future, though the machines change from film to film. They even got the Centurion walking HKs into Machinima and Genisys, though I always like Jim Cameron's original design better. ALl we need now are the Silverfish snake-mines. Eh-eh. We need a REAL FUTURE WAR FILM, with Ts, HKs, the works, beginning to end, with plenty of night scenes for great use of plasma beams, and Johnathan Edwards, the FIRST adult John Connor from the beginning (and cut-off T2 original ending) of T2. Plus I'd like to see Linda and her twin sister Leslie onscreen again. P.S.: less Sam Worthington yells ("Naaaowwww!!!") would be nice.
Transmission ends, Data Control Center out. >Zheeowp<

Leo brought home the gold, and rightly so! He's been a fave of mine since the early 2000s, and it's not hard to see why: the man simply WILL NOT QUIT KILLING HIMSELF to bring you the best he has!! And Tom Hardy, though not a fave of mine until Mad Max: Thunder Road, similarly seems determined to torture himself half to death in order to tell an INSANELY COMPELLING tale of a scout and a trapper, at each other's throats in the mountains , rivers, and valleys of Indian Country. I highly recommend anyone with a hunger for historical figures who were put through the wringer by nature to BUY THIS ONE. Not to be missed!!!

GITS Arise details Section 9s recruitment of Motoko Kusanagi, a military cyborg who attempts to stop the security detail from exhuming her commanding officer from his coffin. This leads to an exploration of the start of Kusanagi's association with former teammate turned mercenary Batou, her forced recruitment of him and the rest of the team. Highly stylized and well worth a look. I recommend it!
