Great TV for $229.99
on August 26, 2017
Posted by: Tarzan
I bought this TV for $229.99 on sale for my guest bedroom. I see the regular price is $349. I'm not sure if it's great for $349 however.
This isn't a smart TV but I knew that before buying it. It has google chrome cast which allows you to broadcast the screen from your android phone or tablet onto the TV. This means you can kinda make it a smart TV. But doing that isn't always convenient. I added an amazon fire stick and it's essentially now a smart TV.
Pros: The speakers are the best that I've heard for a flat panel TV. I own 2 Sony TVs costing thousands and this one is better. The resolution is ok. I've seen better but I got this under $300 and for that price, its fine.
Cons: The remote doesn't have numbers so you can't go directly to a channel. The TV talks every action you make like "volume 30." Got annoying quick. You can turn it off tho.
So for the TV $230 and firestick $40, I got a wifi smart 43 inch TV for $270.00. Now I'm kicking myself for not getting 2 as I needed another for my other bedroom. I'd say it's worth about $300. If it every comes back down to $230, i'ts a steal.

I would recommend this to a friend!

Chrome cast
September 4, 2017
With chrome cast, you have to cast your screen onto the TV, be it your phone or tablet. This isn't always convenient. Imagine you pull up netflix and cast it on the TV, then someone calls you. It'll stop the netflex because it's showing whatever pops up on your phone.
So in sense, it sort of a smart tv, if you don't mind dedicating your phone/tablet to your TV. If you get a fire stick, it's dedicated to your TV. A true smart TV has all the apps built in. Whereas this TV, only shows what's on your device that you "cast" it to.

Good tablet for the $
By mstoll from Lowell, MI
As of this review I have owned the tablet for over a week and these are my initial impressions.
Pro's
Price (you can't beat this package for the price) - 2 GB RAM, 32 GB device storage (plus whatever size SD card you put in)
Operating system - Having the newest Android OS is very nice, even as an iOS user I really like it
Battery life - I have been using it on/off for two days at a time (or more) on one charge
Google play - having come from a Kindle Fire which doesn't play friendly with Google, it was nice having most Google apps pre-loaded and still able to side load the Amazon app store (with all my purchased apps through it).
AC Wifi - having just upgraded my router to ac, it was nice having a tablet with ac, definitely quicker. Downloaded many apps and in app things very quickly.
OK
Screen resolution - it's good enough for me for all my tablet consumption, although some people might think it is too low.
Charging - I have been having experiences with long charge times (definitely follow their recommended practice of using the charger that comes with it, for some reason, even though it has the same specs as my other charger, it makes a difference in charge time).
Camera - I haven't really used the cameras at all (this wasn't really what I bought it for) so I can't comment on that.
Con's
Speed - This was able to perform most functions fairly snappy but some online games were slow (I was hoping for more from 2 GB of Ram - my iPhone SE is quicker but this doesn't cost $500 either)
Possibly wifi - I've had some issues with wifi cutting out even when near the router, still exploring if the tablet is the issue
Google user - you have to use a google account to operate it (i.e. Google play account), which isn't a problem for me. The problem is I have more than one account (business and personal) and you can't switch between accounts to access say your other gmail email without having a separate login on the tablet (this is more of a limitation of the Android OS than the tablet).
Weight - it's a little heavier than I would like, which can become an issue after a while if you are trying to hold it upright to read a book
SD Card door - as others have mentioned the door that gives access to the SD card and microUSB for a keyboard, etc. is flimsy and doesn't fit well. Fortunately, I only need to access mine once (to put the SD card in). So not really an issue for me. If you were going to use a keyboard or mouse or something I think it would bother me, but that's what they make Bluetooth devices for.
Overall I would definitely recommend this tablet for the price as long as you are good with the limitations mentioned above.

Not a typical smart tv
By DLT9862 from Ohio
I searched for smart tv on the website. This television came up in the search and we thought it would be perfect for us. However, there are no apps installed on the tv aside from the chrome cast. Therefore, it requires an internet connection as well as another device to provide the content to display through casting.
We don’t use a tv often. Once a week for an hour or two at most. We thought we could get used to running multiple electronics simultaneously just to watch something. Unfortunately, the tv doesn’t stay connected to the cast device for too long. Upon interruption, a message is displayed that reads: “[NameOfTv] disconnected from [NameOfWiFiNetwork]”.
The constant need to reconnect devices is not what we imagined when making the decision to try out the incorrectly- sectioned “smart” tv.
Wouldn’t recommend this tv to anyone.

Should have read my review. Pair it with a Roku or Amazon firestick and it will become a smartTV on the cheap.

very impressed with perfromance / price
By ebk02 from sac. ca.
I have used many tablets, from "budget" to even a few in the $400+ price range. I did not feel the high priced tablets were worthy of such a hefty price tag, so have generally worked with the lower priced units. Anyway, on to this tablet.
First, let me say it is one of the fastest I have used in this price range. Snappy performance due to 2GB ram, connects to internet well with quick downloads, excellent screen with good angle of view, attractive design, and a feature I really like is that there are a few controls for modifying basic picture - contrast, temperature, etc. Battery life appears to be a little above average for a large tablet.
As with anything, there are a few cons - a lack of some ports other tablets may have such as HDMI, full size USB. The "app drawer" where you can see all installed apps is missing in Android 7.0, but there is a Google app that restores the drawer, and gives a look more like Android 6.**.

You can enable the drawer in the settings. It's disabled by default.

There's a video comment on YouTube about it. It's the one where the guy is reviewing the black version. Do a search for B3-A40 review. It's the only in depth one and one of his viewers commented.

Not a good experience.
By Whimpy from Beaumont, Texas
My son has an Acer laptop so I decided to try out an Acer product since he said it had been and still is a good product. I loaded all of my programs from Google Play account and everything seemed to work fine. It was a little slow but for the price I was happy. Then a message appeared that said there was a new update for the tablet. I update my Microsoft computers continually so I didn't think anything about it. After the update it started giving me error messages that said "Google Play was shutting down" and it wouldn't stop doing it. I read everything I could find on the internet about the problem and tried a lot of things. Then I saw where someone said they loaded an older version of the update and their problem went away. I normally don't handle problems like these I just want to put my software on the computer and use it, so I had to figure out how to do that and I did. My problem went away and I finally got everything loaded and ready to use and as I was testing a couple of things everything quit working. I had set it up to store a bunch of my programs on my 32 gigabyte SD card. It acted like it lost contact with the card and I had thought that maybe I didn't put it in right because it kept wanting to come back out but then suddenly it caught and stayed in. I had to reload everything. That is around 65 programs. It all started working right and I used it for a few days. I thought okay I got this. A month or so later I took it to an annual convention. I have a Bible and quite a bit of other publications that I planned to use at this convention. It worked great until about two hours into the convention then it went totally black. I opened the little hatch on top carefully to look at the SD card. It was out. I knew then what I was in for so I made my phone a hot spot and got on the internet to set up the tablet again but I left the SD card completely out of it and loaded only what I needed to get through the convention. I decided I would just try to use it without the SD card and give it up. I bought the thing in May of 2017 ,I think, and I have used it for several months and it seemed to be getting slower and slower and slower. So today I decided that I would let it load an update that has just started showing up on screen when I reboot the tablet. It put me right back where I started. It started again with the Google Play is shutting down messages. This did it for me. My experience would lead me to say that anyone who is computer tech savy might figure this out and fix it, but I am not a computer tech and don't want to be one. I own 10 computers. I own a small company. I have never experienced this much trouble with any of them. Not that everything runs perfect with everyone else's computers, this has just been the worst experience. As I was typing the previous sentence I saw the screen light up on the tablet and it says "Unfortunately, Google Play Store has stopped" and I don't even have it open.

That's not the same tablet. The one in the pic you have is LAST YEARS model, which was slower. Thus, your review is wrong and irrelevant.
