iPad/iPhone do not use Micro. There are more and more styles and brands to chose from for iPhone & iPad now.

Can i use this to back up my MacBook? if not any suggestions?
This is micro/USB drive but this do come in a drive works with Apple products like iPhone, iPad..... I have an old Mac can use the USB side and you can check your MacBook to see. Computers are still using USB except mobiles use micro & others. I am the PC person not Mac. I do know that iPhone doesn't use micro & Samsung Note8 can't use this one either. You need to find out your phone connector. This actually works kinda like a flash drive except it has micro and USB duel drive for either mobile or computer.

Will this work with a Samsung Galaxy A8 tab. If not what would?
It works with the Samsung S6 but you need to download the Scan Disk Dual App. My new Eliipsis 10 tablet didn't work too well and I was too busy to figure out again now. It supposedly will work with tablet. I do have the Samsung Duel Disk too and I actually like it more than this Scan Disk.

From my Samsung Galaxy s6 Edge, could I transfer photos and videos onto the SD/MicroSD card using this product?
My S6 won't recognize this reader. I backup whatever from S6 to my computer then I can review/delete/write/play the files. This is like another attach device to the mobile not like the headphone. The newer mobile is bit complicated on setup for special uses. I don't want to make telephone calls to this & that places.... I don't want to mess with it & I don't have to have it. I do already have a reader for all cards size & it will go back to the store. Good luck.

My cable modem was just toasted by a nearby lightning strike that was on a high priced surge protector. None of the other electronics on the strip were affected. I was told by the cable folks it happens frequently. Is this unit coax protected?
Power outages caused the surge protector wouldn't work after may be two times during the last 25 years or so. Computer, TV, recorder, players....on the strip were all good. They were the high priced with high joules surge protectors. This one doesn't have coax protected because it is a lower price has only 2100 joules too. I bough it because it is HDR and I will use it for like bluray players....
