I did not like this case because the iPad will not go to sleep if the case is closed on an iPad Air 2. Also, this case will show dust and lint really easily. I prefer a faux leather or an aluminum case. It stays clean. But if you want to just protect the iPad, it works.

You can see the difference in the more responsive A8X processor, with M8 motion coprocessor. Not so much of a difference in battery life between the Air and Air 2 though. Games made with Metal warm both models up literally, but are more fluid on the Air 2 needless to say.

I would not use this as a solution for what you need. This external drive uses a dedicated power supply, and does not get its power via USB. My Passport would be what you are looking for.
