Another installment in the Marvel franchise that operates as a good solo venture for the character and introduces his world appropriately. However, the special effects and green screen work leave much to be desired which isn’t helped by the fact that SO much of the film utilizes those tricks.

A 2K Upgrade of a Horror Classic

Let me first start by saying: I love these Shout Factory releases. Everything from the improved picture quality, to the awesome and in-depth special features, to the exclusive cover art makes these blu rays such an enjoyable purchase for movie buffs because THESE are the reasons we buy blu rays.

This is an 80's horror classic that is actually a remake of a movie made in the 50's. Kurt Russell and John Carpenter re-team to bring us a fantastic horror movie that operates on all the levels that a good horror/thriller film should. You feel a constant rising tension and are thrust into a story with rich characters.

Again, what makes this blu ray worth the purchase is the improved video quality as well as the amped up special features from the initial release. As a movie buff, I always get more enjoyment out of watching behind the scenes featurettes and commentaries than I sometimes do from watching the actual film. This is a must buy for all Carpenter fans!

Supreme Bourne

Being a big fan of the Bourne series, this was a must-buy for my new 4K collection. The movie itself is amazing and arguably the best in the series. I think anyone reading this obviously has seen the movie, but is wondering if the 4K HDR upgrade is worth it:

I would say that the video is not that vast of an upgrade due to the fact that the movie has a very greyed and muted color palate to begin with. Yes, there are some visual improvements with landscape shots and color richness in the explosions. The biggest benefit to the upgrade is the audio. With action films such as this, the hugely improved audio quality makes gunshots, explosions, and the squeal of tires in car chases much richer to the point where you feel completely immersed in the film like you're there in the middle of it.

I would say if you're just a casual movie watcher and want a 4K movie that will really show the visual upgrade, then this might be one you want to skip, but if you're a true fan of the Bourne series and want to enhance your experience with it, this is worth the $19.99 price to pick it up.

Best Heist Film Since "Heat"

This was another of the discounted 4K pickups I came across once I picked up my4K HDR player. I was looking for movies I love and have a tendency to rewatch frequently and The Town is on that list.

That being said: this was a release I wasn't fully satisfied with. While the movie itself is still amazing, I was disappointed to see that the HDR version we're given is the Theatrical release and not the Extended Cut. I know the extended cut doesn't add all that much more action, but I just feel that for the money and the experience we all buy the movie for to see it in 4K, I would have preferred that WB give us the extended cut in 4K. I'm not all that surprised since they didn't release Argo or Suicide Squad extended cuts in 4K.

The 4K upgrade isn't all that noticeable in terms of picture. There are a couple of color enriched scenes, but the biggest benefit is the audio upgrade.

Best in the Series!!

Being a guy who loves action movies, the Bourne films have always been a favorite of mine (yeah, we're not going to count Legacy). So when I picked up my 4K HDR player, this was one of the first films I picked up. You can't beat the overall amazing quality of this film's story, action, and characters. To add all these elements with the vastly improved picture and audio quality of 4K, this is a MUST OWN for all movie enthusiasts.

Now, I will admit: the greatest benefit I got from this 4K upgrade was the sound, but that is because HDR is really only most noticeable in picture quality when there are very bright colors on screen, i.e. Explosions, fire, etc... this was why Batman v Superman is a 4K movie that was worth every cent and vastly improved the movie watching experience in that regard.

The Bourne series is a must own for every movie fan. Is the upgrade necessary? No, not necessarily, but I think if you're a big fan of the series and will really look for the improvements, then this will be a satisfying purchase for you.

A Cult Classic Deserving Your Purchase

John Carpenter and Kurt Russell are a famous duo in the world of cinema, having worked together on projects like Elvis, Escape From NY, Escape From LA, The Thing, and Big Trouble in Little China.

This movie is a staple in 80's action movie nostalgia. Yes, the story is bizarre and yes some of the effects look a bit wonky and cheap compared to today's standards. But what makes this blu ray worth the purchase is the HD picture quality, the special features, and the fact that this movie's success has always been dependent on the charisma and likability of the actors/characters. Kurt Russell is always a joy to watch and hearing him and Carpenter discuss another of their films together in the commentary is so much fun. Well worth the $10 price point to add to your collection.

The Story Continues...

Ridley Scott finally returns to the Alien franchise with Prometheus. This was a movie that was met with a divided audience. People either loved it or hated it.

I won't cast judgement on what I think of the story or characters, but I do feel that the movie is beautifully shot and the blu ray comes loaded with a ton of cool special features that will prove interesting for fans and movie buffs. I would say if you're a die hard fan of the Alien franchise, then this is a must own with how Fox seems to be reinvigorating the series. Also, I would say that if you can own Alien Resurrection, then you can certainly own Prometheus haha.

A Great Movie By Itself, Awesome in 4K

Since recently getting a 4K HDR player, I had bought a small handful of movies to watch and try them out on. Being that John Wick is one of my favorite movies and with the sequel quickly coming to home video release, I couldn't resist picking this one up.

While anyone who's seen John Wick knows how amazing of a movie it is, the 4K edition adds to the experience with richer color and sound that will blow you away. With all of the gunshots and fight sequences, the sound effects are vastly enhanced and make you feel as though you're in the middle of the club shootout sequence! I was able to pick this one up for $14.99, so if you're new to 4K HDR and looking for some great and fairly inexpensive titles to pick up and add to your collection, this is a must-get.

I've been a fan of director Gavin O'Connor since Warrior, so I had a built in expectation that this movie would be good. Ben Affleck shines in this role and shows how versatile of an actor he is. The story is charged and intriguing while also providing great action sequences to keep you entertained throughout.

The special features do make the blu ray worth the purchase if you're a big fan of looking behind the scenes of how movies are made. I would say this is a great add for anyone's collection, although I'm not entirely sure how often people will be rewatching the movie. This might be a once every year or every other year watch for most people.
