BRING IT BACK ALIVE [REMASTERED] is a great reissue of a great live CD by the Outlaws. This was their first recording as a harder-rocking band, and their early country-rockers are presented here as blazing hard rock, surpassed only by the band's archival live releases. This CD is so intense that it makes Molly Hatchet sound like Abba by comparison.
STREET SURVIVORS [DELUXE EDITION] is the ultimate version of what's already the best Lynyrd Skynyrd album ever. The first disc is the original released album, whereas the second features the FIRST version of the album, produced by Tom Dowd, plus five live cuts recorded in Fresno, California. This should be the first Lynyrd Skynyrd album you buy.
LIVE ON LONG ISLAND 4-18-80 is tied with the set from the CAROLINA DREAMS tour as the best live Marshall Tucker CD set ever. This was the last concert, although no one knew it at the time, to feature the original lineup, as bassist Tommy Caldwell died six days later when his truck flipped over. The newer songs have more authority here than they did in their studio incarnations, and the older ones show a new polish and refinement that comes with experience. This two-CD set and the two-CD/DVD set from the CAROLINA DREAMS tour are the first live Marshall Tucker Band albums you should buy.
WHERE WE ALL BELONG is one of the best albums the Marshall Tucker Band ever did. The first half is the best tracks the band ever recorded in the studio, and while the live second half isn't quite as great as the archival stuff released later, it's still impressive. This is one of the first MTB albums you should buy.
The Marshall Tucker Band's self-titled debut gets the band off to a fast start. It features a one-two punch of "Take The Highway" and "Can't You See", and features lots of other great songs, including the kiss-off "See You Later, I'm Gone." This CD shows a band that's clearly developed its sound before it ever recorded.
A NEW LIFE, the Marshall Tucker Band's second album, is just as great as the first. It's a bit more consistent, and even if there aren't any knockout punches in the vein of "Take The Highway" or "Can't You See", there is a great deal of consistency. If you loved Tucker's debut, you'll love A NEW LIFE.
CAROLINA DREAMS is yet another great CD by the Marshall Tucker Band. It features their biggest hit, "Heard It In A Love Song", and several other great songs, including the cautionary "Never Trust A Stranger." This CD is a rich, rewarding experience that repays repeated listening with new insight.

BLUE SKY NIGHT THUNDER/SWANS AGAINST THE SUN is a terrific CD containing two great albums by Michael Murphey, one of the great storytellers in 70s country-rock. Deftly blending folk, country, pop, rock, classical, and bluegrass influences, Murphey is to music what James Michener is to contemporary fiction- all of his songs have a unique sense of place. If you like Poco, Marshall Tucker, Pure Prairie League, or the Outlaws, you'll want this CD.
