Apollo11's Reviews

The first 22 episodes of The Addams Family are present on the triple-DVD set, looking and sounding better than they ever have in syndicated reruns -- the full-screen black-and-white image (1.33-to-1) is so beautifully transferred, than you can see every delightfully bizarre detail of the decor in the Addams home. And each disc opens automatically to a simple, easy-to-use menu that also includes easy access to the bonus features -- the latter include a karaoke version of the theme song, a delightful featurette called "You Rang, Mr. Addams," and audio commentary on four episodes (including the series debut) by surviving cast members Ken Weatherwax, Lisa Loring, and Felix Silla (who played Cousin Itt) -- their discussion ranges freely across the history of the series, and their reminiscences are so engaging and beguiling, that they're as enjoyable as the show itself. Weatherwax and Loring, who portrayed Pugsley and Wednesday, respectively, literally grew up while doing the show, Loring first learning to read while working with their early scripts, and they had a wonderful time doing the show. As with other FoxVideo television series DVDs, the episodes are generously chapter-coded and the discs are well-produced. The only thing missing, which one hopes might happen in a future release on the series, is a contribution from surviving star John Astin, who portrayed Gomez.

Screaming laughter!

This "spooky" comedy screams out with laughter. Each of the cast members brought a unique perspective to this "kooky" family. John Astin was robbed by not winning an Emmy for his portrayal of the head of the household, Gomez Addams.

Super comedy!

Although this series was short-lived, each episode was full of the sight gags and puns for which creator Mel Brooks was famous. The cast was superb in executing the well-written script. This DVD brings back great memories from my teen years.
