A forgotten jewel in the Chaplin filmography

Chaplin extends his range in this atypical performance. He proves he could star and direct in a film with much darker tones, moments of Hitchcockian suspense and dramatic beats. Orson Welles originally wanted to direct and talked Chaplin in to taking the film, which would have been wonderful. As it is, it is still an incredible movie for fans of its star and lovers of fine film. Criterion once again offers amazing video, excellent features and wonderful overall presentation. Buy it!

The sound is fine and the carrying/charging case is handy but the ear piece is problematic, I have found it very difficult to keep on/in my ear especially during movement. Not ideal unless you are using them in stationary position.

Tim Burton established himself as a fan favorite filmmaker with this contemporary fairy tale. This also served as Johnny Depp's breakthrough film role (he was a teen idol and tv star on 21 Jump Street) and would set the course for his more unusual film trajectory playing oddball characters and misunderstood heroes. Edward is the prototype. Plus Winona Ryder and an incredible supporting cast. What a neighborhood, Check it out. Looks great in High Def and can be bought for a super low price,

Rawhide made him a TV star. The Man With No Name gave him feature film cred. This movie is where Clint starts making films for himself, his way, his brand. It is a precursor to the great films to come. Still you have Clint as the conflicted western hero. Strong supporting cast. Less action than we are used to as the story explores western justice but it looks terrific in High Def despite its age. A little grain never hurt those dusty Western scenes. Pick it up at a great price, then go buy Josey Wales, the Man With No Name Trilogy, Unforgiven, etc.
