I have had this little camera for just over a week. My very first impressions is that the camera performs magnificent for its size. You can immediately tell that this is a quality product by the weight of the camera. It just feels solid! However, remember its size. This camera is small and navigating the buttons and holding the device can be a challenge at times. Just remember, if you want small and compact, you’ll have to deal with issues like this. It is definitely not a show stopper for me!
My main reason for picking up the RX100IV is to have a small and compact camera that can be easily carried anywhere that takes as good of a picture as my other Sony mirrorless (A7R, A6000). For its size, and the new stacked 1” sensor, it indeed delivers! It’s hard to believe the quality of the images coming from this tiny camera. I have had other point and shoot type cameras in the past and was forced to deal with mediocre photos at best, but what do you expect from a point and shoot. The RX100IV is quite the opposite. This little gem delivers great images that will seriously compete against its bigger and older siblings.
The camera is loaded with features! Way too many to discuss in full on this forum, but the extras it has inside really make this a fantastic option for many photo enthusiast. The video options for one really put the RX100IV above many of its current competitors. Having the ability to place a point and shoot type camera into full manual mode is another fantastic option that gives you total control of your picture and video taking ability. Just ensure you have the right SD cards to record the type of video you are trying to capture. The higher rate HD and 4k video options alone require a much faster SD card (U3) than normal video capture.
There are a few of small complaints that I have discovered over the past week of use. There may be more as I become more aware of the many features within the camera. The first of which is the limited battery life. It’s not too bad if you are only taking photos, however; if you start working with the numerous video options, the battery can go quick. I immediately bought two extra batteries when I purchased the camera. I might get more depending on my activities when using the camera. Another issue with the camera is the heat generated when using it while filming video. This little pup gets hot! Just remember, if you’re serious about videography, you might think about getting a setup that is specifically for video. I have yet to get a warning message, or have had the camera shut down due to the heat, but this is a known issue with the camera. Sony even cautions you about the heat and the devices ability to shut itself down to prevent damage. Another drawback for me personally is the lack of a hot shoe. I would have liked to have this option to use off camera flash if I wanted. The tiny flash on the camera really could have been left off in order to make room for a hot shoe. But that is my opinion. Some may find the tiny flash sufficient. Lastly, some might steer away from the RX100IV due to its price point. At nearly $1000, this might be out of many users’ price range and budget. However, when comparing the total build quality, image quality, amount of features and the overall functionality of the camera, I’m not sure that a lower price is feasible.
This is definitely a great little camera that I am totally impressed with. I will take this everywhere I go and I see it getting used very heavily. In many cases, it could potentially be used over my other mirrorless setups, that’s how good this camera is. I would recommend it to anyone who is serious about their photography and for those who are looking for exceptional quality in the images, and video, that they produce.
Compatible with most cameras that accommodate a Sony multi-interface shoe, this Sony HVLF20M external flash features a built-in diffuser for wide illumination and a Tele mode that extends the range of the flash to effectively capture a distant subject.

I bought this flash to trigger my HVLF60M flashes. It is very simple operate by mounting the flash to the multi interface shoe on the camera and flip the flash to the upright position. I triggers the HVLF60M without any problems that I have encountered yet. It also works in High Speed Sync, one of the main selling points for me. The flash provides good fill light when just that little extra is needed to fill in the shadows in some situations. I have not had any issues with the flash interfering with the general exposure of my photos when working with other off camera HVLF60M’s. I have had no issues with this flash and I am generally satisfied with its performance compared to its relatively small size. The price is about right for a unit such as this one.
Designed for use with select Sony cameras, this Sony HVLF60M external flash features a Quick Shift Bounce system to help maintain even horizontal light distribution. The built-in LED light lets you easily switch between shooting stills and videos.

I have no complaints about this flash thus far. I have used it a few times and have not run into any problems yet. I did read some negative reviews about this flash elsewhere about it having an issue with overheating. However, I think Sony addressed this issue with a flash firmware update that is now on these newer flashes. I have had no issues with the unit overheating. The new multi interface shoe on newer Sony Alpha cameras has created quite a problem trying to find flash systems that support High Speed Sync. This flash works really well on all of the new E-mount camera systems. My main reason for purchase was a HSS solution for my A7r and A6000 cameras. This flash can act as a commander to control several other HVLF60M flashes in HSS. It can also be controlled by other Sony flashes such as the HVLF32M and HVLF20M. All in all, this flash works well and is very easy to setup right out of the box. If I had to complain about one thing at this point it would be the lack of RF control not being built into the flash. I would really like Sony to incorporate an RF system in a version 2 of this flash such as the likes incorporated into Canon’s 600EX-RT flash.
