19" rack compatibility is questionable

While it might be true that this shelf is compatible with all 19" racks, it certainly wasn't easy. I just finished installing this shelf into a new empty rack (a StarTech no less, 4POSTRACK25U) and installation was a nightmare.
I should've read reviews first, because after it seemed like this shelf wasn't going to fit, I found a review with better instructions than the ones that came with it. The manual has you attach the ears to the shelf first and then mount it in the rack. However, the ears make it just too wide to fit into a 19" rack.
Instead, as suggested in the review I found, I had better luck mounting the ears to the rack first, and then sliding the shelf in. It was still a very tight fit and required more force than seemed intended to get it into place.
Now installed, the shelf seems very sturdy and will function as described. Was almost comical how much easier it was installing some ReadyRails and a server immediately afterwards. Not exactly a fair comparison, but I imagine there's room for improvement.
For the price, as well as the fact I was working with a StarTech rack, I expected a much easier installation and not have to go digging around in reviews to figure out a solution. I would not recommend this shelf to anyone unless it could be acquired at a significant discount.

Installation nightmare

Installing this shelf is a nightmare. You have to put the ears in the rack first and then attempt to slide the shelf in because attaching the ears first make the shelf just that much too wide to put in a standard rack. Very poor design
