I purchased the european version (SL65) in Berlin. I could not believe how many features this small camara has! Since I was in a rush to use it, I just charged the battery, put in a 4 GB chip and set time, date and auto mode. After 900 photos I should read the manual!
So far my SL50 camera has not disappointed. Small form and lightweight, easy to understand controls and descriptive menus. I love the 5x optical zoom(most cameras in this price range were only 3x). I am still learning to use all the features this camera has to offer but the AUTO feature had me taking quality pics right out of the box! Lots of adjustable features, you can even fix pictures right from the LCD! Face, blink, and smile detection...this camera probably has more than I will ever use, pretty good for a point and shoot! I would suggest getting an SD card at the same time since the internal memory is rather small. Overall, I am extremely happy with my new camera. I will update should anything change, but I'm guessing this camera, being a Samsung and all, will keep snapping great shots for a long time to come.
I own another higher end Samsung camera and i picked up this one new in the box on a clearance sale for a fraction of what it retailed for originally. It does a great job in most situations but i had a few issues with focus and white balance in a few outdoor pictures on smart mode but most of the time (95%) its pictures are very accurate. On macro i was able to get a clear focus on a subject within an inch or two away from the lens so that was impressive for a camera in this class. Overall this is a decent product
Cons: focus & white balance out of sync in certain pics
I would recommend this to a friend!

Overall above average for the price. I miss the wheel to select features. You have to dive into the menu screen to change settings instead of just turning a dial. Not recommended for first digital camera but good for someone familiar with compact cameras.
Cons: Did not meet expectations, not user friendly
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This camera is great AT FIRST. Its a cheap camera, works fine, etc. After a few months, the screen WILL break. I know this for a fact because we bought 2 of them and recommended a friend to buy 1. All 3 of them are broken. They were purchased in Nov, the first one broke in Jan, the second in March, and the 3rd today May 5. Neither of the 3 were dropped or hit or mistreated in any way. Before this camera we had another samnsung camera (which is why we stuck to samsung) that we purchased in 2006 and it STILL works! This camera will not last more than a few months, no matter what. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!
Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, will break
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
