Not carrying a wallet takes a mental adjustment but the Commuter Wallet is great.
I've always carried a wallet. Always. So the first few days of not carrying around a bunch of mementos, unused store cards and the like takes a little bit of getting used to.
But once you make the commitment to the Wallet, life seems to get a little easier. A license, a debt card, a frozen yogurt rewards card (yes I know) and 2-3 folded Federal Reserve Notes and I'm ready for the road.
Opening and closing it is a little awkward as you do need to make sure you black screen the iPhone before you two hand the tray open. But once you learn the process it seems natural.
The only fear that lingers is loosing the phone. Without it, I would be without the only ID and CC I would have on me (no wallet in pocket to fall back on).
But the Commuter Wallet fits great and works great too…
My previous iPhone had a Defender case and it lasted longer than the phone (4 years). So when I got a new phone, I decided to get a case for it and ended up with the Commuter this time.
I was happy to have a choice of color and what I got was very close to what the photos showed me. The only thing I'm somewhat unhappy with is the screen protection: I didn't realize it is a separate sticker and not integrated as in Defender. Despite my attempts at cleaning the screen before attaching the sticker I still got a few specs of dust underneath. It doesn't seem to affect the usability of the phone, but they show, especially when the phone is blanked out. If I'd realized "screen protection" meant this, I might have gone for Defender.
Despite the little disappointment, I really like the case. It makes the phone much better to hold and I can drop the phone into the same pocket with my keys without having to worry about scratching. All the buttons work well, too.

Great case but...

The silicone part of the case gets dirty and there in nothing that will clean it. This is my second Otterbox case. The first case was for an IPhone 4S. That case would come clean. The case I have now is for an IPhone 6. I have the pink silicone insert. It is dirty and does not look good at all. Love the case. Great protection for the phone. Just tired of looking at the dirty insert.

Screen Protector low quality

The case itself is exactly what I wanted, but the screen protector is one of the worst I've installed over the last 8 years. I've probably setup only about 20-30 of them. I was disappointed to see horrible instructions that were unclear about which piece was which. You pull the little sticker and it either tears the sticker or it bends the cover due to the angle that they stuck the stickers on. The mini card to "smooth" the bubbles left me with grainy lines in my cover. I'll keep the case, but toss the useless cover in lieu of a proper one. Very sad Otterbox. I expect better from you.

Hey Ackgack,
We're sorry to see that you've had a frustrating time with the installation of the self-adhering screen protector for the OtterBox Commuter. We would be more than happy to get another one sent out to you under our warranty if you would like to give the installation one more try. Another option for you to consider might be our tempered glass screen protector called the Alpha Glass. You can check it out right here on our website:
My only complaint on the Commuter series shell is that it's too slick. With the Defender series, I could set the phone on my leg in the car, and it wouldn't slip off. Now the Defender series is set up opposite of the Commuter series (it has the hard shell on the inside and the more rubbery shell on the outside), so it didn't slide off my leg...but I still think the hard shell could be made a little better so it wasn't as slippery. My only other complaint is the color selection...it was limited.
I'm not horribly rough on my phone, so other than the two relatively minor issues above, this series is great! It allows a little more access to the screen than the Defender series...both in screen area and with a better screen cover that is more sensitive to the touch than the Defender series.
I like the concept of the new otter box phone case I bought, with the hidden compartment for credit cards or cash, BUT that compartment is way too hard to get open. I have had the case for a little over a month and have only been able to open it twice. Not a good design for people with hands that are not like a vice. On the other hand, it certainly will keep anyone from just grabbing your phone and slipping into the secret compartment.

All my iPhones have been in an Otterbox case and I can't imagine using any other brand. I like that the commuter case provides protection to my phone and doesn't add a lot of extra bulk. I would definitely recommend the commuter case for normal, everyday use!
Unfortunately the screen protector does not fit as snug on the S as it does on the earlier 6. I have both phones with Defenders and did comparisons. I finally took a heat gun and soften up the glue and removed the protector and ordered a glass protector.

Hey ScottsGT,
Sounds like you've already resolved the issue you were having with your current Defender, but we're truly sorry that you felt you had to take matters into your own hands. Even though you've removed the screen protector, we'd still be more than happy to get you into a warranty replacement that we're confident will get you the same performance as you had with the iPhone 6 Defender. Just give our handy Otters a call at 1-855-688-7269, and we'll fix this right up for you if you like.
