In my opinion there is no better scanner for the small administrative jobs that are needed for small offices, such as a church. The scan quality is terrific!

Using to scan 4x6 pictures and the ADF jams at least half the time.
I may need to return it.

WOW

I've been scanning for 15 years or so, and always used another brand of scanner. I always liked that brand, but they've grown very lax in providing drivers for new Macintosh operation system versions. So... it was time for a change.
My photographer friends have always raved about Epson everything - scanners, printers, everything, so I thought I should look for an Epson scanner. I liked the very high resolution available on this one, and some of the other features.
WOW - the scans blow me away. So clear, just beautiful - the scans make me sorry I stuck with the other brand for so long.
The only reason this doesn't get 5 stars is that it's not legal-size. I have to stitch two-scan legal size docs together in Photoshop; even that's not too big a deal. This is an amazing scanner.

good but not great

An updated version of a familiar EPSON design but still suffering from all the old design ills. To begin, item was received damaged ... specifically the feeder plastic sheeting that sits on top of the glass was wrinkled and punctured. The feeder does not work well, often gets stuck even with very few pages. There is also a distinct artifact streaking (green) when scanning any photos already in a printed page. Generally slow, slow slow interface no matter what "dpi" setting or upgraded software you use. Overall a 1 star rating for the money - this may very well be the very last Epson made device I will ever purchase after many years.

Since the day I wore the head out on my RX 500 I have looked for a replacement. At last I have found it. It took an Artisan 1430 and Epson Perfection V500 Office to do it better. I expect more than most, and now I get it. I have 500 sheets of photo paper a day to prove it. When friends ask how I do it. I never tell them. I show them.

ADF JAMS WITH PHOTOS
on December 1, 2011

Purchased this scanner with the main feature being that it could scan photos using the Automatic Document Feeder. This is not the case. The first (new) scanner that I received, it pulled the pictures through just fine but the digital image would have streaks through it. Had it replaced and the second scanner/ADF was worse. The jamming was ridiculous. Had it replaced for the third time and it was just as bad as the second one. Not to mention that the 2nd and 3rd products they sent were damaged. They looked USED. The scanner part is great, the ADF is not. I recommend the scanner without the ADF. P.S. I was told after the third replacement the ADF is not to be used for pictures due to the texture. :/

EXCELLENT FOR OFFICE & PHOTOGRAPHY WORK

This is a scanner dedicated for office, but can, also, do photo work. It can scan one by one, or, you can exchange the included extra flatbed for scanning in great volume. The quality is extraordinary pixels excellent , and you can regulate it. It can scan to pdf , or to jpg, or other formats. As, is a scanner dedicated, it has a very much longer life than the brief usable life of the disposable scanners used in the all-in-ones. The quality is very much higher than the all-in-ones. Also, it has star energy saving electric power. This is exactly the scanner for a small, or, medium size , or even great size, office. As all scanners it is better than when not in use, cover it against dust particles in your office. Also, EPSON has more spare parts for reparations than other companies whose hardware is completely DISPOSABLE
