Two ugly problems with this refrigerator.

I WANT to love this refrigerator, or even like it, having spent so much for it, but two glaring problems keep me from appreciating it. 1. The hinged strip attached to the left door, and which creates a sealing surface for the RIGHT door when closed does not return to the proper position for the door to be closed on its own, as the designers intended. The spring is so weak that operating the flap is basically a manual operation every time the door is opened. Aggravating, and would have been a disqualifier had I known about it before purchasing. I can see from other reviewers that this is a design problem. 2. The ice maker is a very poor design. We are constantly required to open the cover and stir the ice with the handle of a plastic spatula to break the ice free so that it will dispense. There is no proper ice agitator as with most other ice makers. Very aggravating, and would have been a disqualifier for me if I had known about it. ALSO, and I see that other owners suffer this as well, the ice dispensing chute jams about 50% of the time. You have to reach up into the chute to pull the cover door open manually, which dumps a bunch of ice onto the floor. I've tried cleaning it with vinegar to make sure calcification wasn't the problem, but nothing I've done works. I think the servo that opens the door fully just doesn't work properly 50% of the time.
I would not purchase this model again, and I am, in fact, considering selling it used so that I can buy a properly designed and built refrigerator. If I do that, it won't be an LG.

We're using this refrigerator for 3 years now. There's plenty of space for just about everything. Controlling the temperatures couldn't be easer. Changing the water filter is a snap. The ice maker has started to cause trouble. We seem to always have to unblock the cube discharge when we're asking for cubed ice. The strip between the French doors (door mullion), has to be moved manually just about every-time the refrigerator doors are opened, and then closed. This is because the mullion spring is weak. Made cheaply. The decals, or whatever is use for water, and ice indications on the outside of the left door are completely worn off.
The slim ice maker allows for better utilization of space. Everything works great. After researching and looking for months, this was the only refrigerator that met all of our requirements.

Functionally Flawed

Clearly the LG went with design style over function. The water dispenser is made of stainless steel (or plastic) and gets scratched-up quickly because you have to push your glass to it to dispense the water. Thus, you have a beautiful stainless steel refrig that makes you mad everytime you use it because the water dispenser is all scuffed-up.

After researching all refrigerators in Consumer Reports I decided on this product. It is quiet, spacious and keeps exact temperatures. It held two 20 -lb turkeys, four 10-in pies, several casseroles AND regular refrigerator items! Made holiday cooking and storage a breeze. Ice-plus feature quickly fills the ice dispencer.

Durability not what I expected.

After 15 months, the top and center hinge of the mullion are broken. Both appear to be made of a cheap plastic. We now have to carefully close the left door first and then the right. My concern is that this component will fail completely thus rendering the entire refrigerator useless.

We really do love it

You know it does not leave as many fingerprints as you might think being a gloss black unit, even on the handles. 1st thing though is if you are new as we were to the french door design you must re-think on how you normally organize the items. We really found it best to put only a few small items on the doors with one exception for the large container for milk or other gallon types. We love the center drawer for cans of soda or beer. you also get a better look at the fruits and veggie drawers and they don't end rotting away as often. I almost wanted to go with only 3 of the 4 shelve as we have some taller items and the spacing was i little off but we made it work with all 4. The added ice container in the freezer bottom is good for parties so you can save up on the ice, but overall the ice/water works very well and no jamming. Again with the freezer bottom take the smae approach, re-think on your approach smaller item up top and the larger items below, and you should be fine. so far everyone loves it and they also marvel on the lighting and how well it gets the whole space lit. Plenty of space and meets all of our expectations. We would buy it again.

Good Stuff

I bought this after reviewing several brands and models. It packs the most features for the price. The thing that sold be on it beyond the good price was that the ice dispenser is very slim and doesn't cut into the refrigerator space AND that the water filter was equally slim. Most fridges' interior spaces are compromised by these two factors. NOT THIS ONE!
Pros: Features/Settings, Quality, easy to use, slim water filter, slim ice maker/dispenser
