Couldn't Be Happier

We have owned this beauty for a little over a year and I am still in love. It is big and bright and beautiful to look at but the best parts are inside. The first thing you notice is the large bank of LED lights at the top. When you first open the double French doors, you can almost imagine hearing a choir of angels singing. I am not kidding, it is amazing the amount of light that shows through every inch of this beauty. The freezer and fridge temperatures are displayed on the door and are pre-set at 0° and 37°, I have checked the accuracy and they are spot on. And speaking of the freezer, this model has 2 separate freezer drawers and they have plenty of room inside and are easy to open and close. There is also a light in the freezer drawer which comes in handy when you just want to run out between commercials and grab that pint of ice cream without turning on the kitchen light, very clever! There are 3 crisper drawers, 2 large and one small one. Because this fridge is deep, I can put an enormous amount of produce in these drawers and can keep vegetables with stronger smells, like green peppers, away from fruits by using one drawer for veggies and one for fruits. I have noticed that lettuce and celery (which the smaller center crisper drawer is perfect for) stays really crisp and crunchy, and I have had strawberries that lasted 2 weeks. There is also a full width shallower drawer below the crispers which can be set to store meat, veggies or to use as a deli drawer. Each setting will then have a different temperature which is genius because we have all had veggies that froze if we used a lower drawer to store them. I use it for deli meats and cheeses and I swear that my lunch meats are staying fresh longer because of the perfect temperature for these items. The icemaker is a slim one, hidden behind a panel on the left fridge door. I love this feature because it has shelves on the front of the icemaker panel for soda cans and smaller items where, in former models, just a huge icemaker took up half of the door and wasted a lot of space. A large family who uses a lot of ice may find this a problem but we are not users of lots of ice and it is absolutely the perfect size for us. In fact, in our previous fridge, which was an enormous side-by-side, the icemaker took up half of the freezer side and I would often have to dump the bin because the ice became stale. This fridge uses a compact water filter which is in the upper left corner of the fridge and very easy to access and change, no more crawling on the floor to change the filter. Ice and water through the door; however, the water dispenser takes a bit of learning to use because it comes out at the top of the dispenser, in a different location than the ice, and a few people have mistakenly put their glass under the ice dispenser and pressed the water button and water then runs down the door and onto the floor. But, you can lock out the controls until you have shown everyone where to put the glass or pitcher and after a few errors, which will happen, they will get the hang of it. That feature allows a much taller glass, mug or pitcher to be used to fill with water so it a great feature, just one that has a slight learning curve. All in all, I would definitely recommend this refrigerator. It looks absolutely gorgeous in my kitchen, has excellent features and is energy star rated. It holds so much more than any fridge I have ever had and that was the main reason that we purchased it. Our 25 cu. ft. stainless side-by-side was still like new but we couldn't store anything in the freezer because it had the huge icemaker and tiny shelf bins. And forget about putting any large items in the fridge side, there was just no room for anything of any size or width. I was so happy to replace it with this model, and the young couple to whom we gave our previous fridge was delighted so it was a win-win situation!!"
I would recommend this to a friend!

Good Refrigerator

The toughest part about purchasing a new refrigerator was finding one that had the features I liked and fit in the space occupied by my old refrigerator, between my cabinets and the installation. Operating the refrigerator and using it's features was very easy. It seems all the new refrigerators were either too tall or too small. I have a cabinet above my refrigerator and an island in my kitchen, which complicated installation. The doors had to be removed to slide the refrigerator in place.
I wanted a french door with ice and water on the door. I liked this model because the slim ice maker in the door did not take away from interior shelf space. I wanted the third vegetable drawer for celery and carrots. The wide shelves on the door on the right are big enough for milk and condiments I use regularly. I use the top shelf flipped up to hold open wine bottles upright. The two drawers of the freezer make it easy to organize food and be able to reach everything easily.
I initially had problems with insufficient ice and moisture between doors, but after adjusting the freezer temperature as recommended in the users guide and the efficiency setting, the problems were resolved.
The large shelves held watermelon and all the corning ware. The humidity settings for vegetables work fine. My electricity bill is lower, than with my old refrigerator. Hopefully the quality will be good for years of use from this appliance.
Pros: Performance, Style/Design, easy to use, Features/Settings, Quality, well designed interior space

Great at first, after 9 months... AWFUL!!!

If I wrote this review during the first 3 months I bought the LMX28988ST I would've rated it 5 stars all around. It seemed amazing at first... lots of space, ice dispenser & water convenient, etc... HOWEVER, after using & owning the fridge for almost 9 months now my opinion has changed completely and I wish I didn't buy this product for these reasons:
1. The "energy saving" seal that is on the left door that helps seal between the 2 doors never stays closed and so every time I close the fridge the stupid plastic thing hits the door and I have to manually close the seal to close the door (you'd understand once you see the fridge)
2. The ice maker always has problems. I use it daily, clean it regularly and it always clogs. I manually get ice now which defeats the purpose. The mechanism in the ice maker isn't very good.
3. SPACE!!! So at first 28 cu ft seemed amazing however, it would be great if the fridge was designed better. Nothing ever fis (like bottles) so everything has to be turned sideways and even though it claims "gallon sized" on the right door, you can fit like 2 milk jugs and nothing else, so there isn't enough space. Literally the only "tall" space is about a 2ft by 1ft area on the middle right shelf. The veggie drawers are really small too.
4. Ice in the freezer. After 8 months of working perfectly, all of a sudden my freezer drawers are lined and the drawer hinges caked with solid ice! Absolutely no explanation for it. I've cleaned & defrosted the freezer multiple times since and it keeps building, so all my food in the freezer is lined with ice. I read the manual, checked the temperature and nothing seems to be wrong, but the actual freezer performance itself.
5. Freezer usability. The concept of drawers is nice and easy, so this is more of a personal complaint in general, but because they are drawers and require some force to close & seal them correctly, it's really hard to make popsicles or ice cubes since the drawer makes everything spill. And although it's nice that the drawers are deep, you have to stack everything which makes it difficult to find what you're looking for.
6. The stupid water dispenser. Let's just say... it's not an inherent thing to use. I've had SO many guests (who are quite tech savvy & smart) spill water everywhere or shoot themselves right in the stomach because of the poor design of the water dispenser.
I can go on and on about the problems I'm having, but in the end I wish I bought a different refrigerator. I like the idea of the 4-door French Door, but I'd look for one that has a better design, better quality & easier to use.

Great Function, Style, and Utility
on May 5, 2012

I am very pleased with the function, style, and utility of this model. The two-drawer freezer is an awesome option for separately organizing storage for frequently used items and longer storage items. The freezer ice bin is very large and keeps plenty of ice on hand. The icemaker makes ice quickly and efficiently, so keeping the freezer ice bin full is easy. I have noticed the produce and dairy items stay fresher longer. Deli products also have a longer freshness period. This will be a great food savings over time, so the utility of the features that produce this result cannot be argued. The water and ice dispensers are working just great so far. Interior lighting is stellar and the overall storage capacity is remarkable. I love the "half shelf" feature that allows tall item storage. I purchased a two-bottle wine rack that fits great on the half shelf space and it works great. I am very pleased with this product so far and have not experienced any negative situations to date. The cost is a bit prohibitive so I purchased an extended warranty to ensure my investment would be protected beyond manufacturer warranty. The idea when purchasing a major appliance is to have a long-term utility and this is more important with a high purchase price. Overall, I do recommend this product.

Ice maker has problems
on June 15, 2013

The ice maker broke and had to be replaced completely within the 1 yr. warranty period. Periodically, with the replacement ice maker, there are frequent times that the ice, when dumped, will not break into cubes, leaving a tray size of unbroken ice in the basket. Consequently you cannot get ice from the dispenser without taking the basket out, breaking up the ice, and replacing the basket. This has become quite annoying.

I LOVE THIS REFRIGERATOR!!!

I replaced another brand wide-by-side refrigerator with this one last April, 2011. With the old fridge, I had to buy ice at least 3 times a week because the ice maker would not make ice, despite having it replaced 4 times. This LG refrigerator is simply FANTASTIC! I absolutely love it! It has plenty of room for my entire Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter meals without having to constantly rearrange everything in it. The ice maker and Ice-Plus system are simply great. The only time I have had to buy ice was for special occasions when I knew we would run out of ice because of so many people. I love the bottom freezer drawers - the top freezer drawer is for quick access items and the bottom freezer drawer is for larger items that we don't use as often. I can't say enough great things about this refrigerator. I refer to this refrigerator as "my baby"! Definitely worth every penny! Thanks LG for such a wonderful product!!!

I will never buy another LG Product!
on August 17, 2014

I had another LG refrigerator that just after the warranty expired the motherboard went bad. After several service repairs that never lasted more that a few months, I finally got rid of it. Had another refrigerator (not LG) for several year with no issues. Remodeled the kitchen and moved the good fridge to the garage and bought this new LG. It was fine other than the size of the ice storage, small quaintly of cold water from the door, and the fact that water will not dispense if the other door is open. Now the fridge is a few year old and just about all the door shelves have broken, and the left door center seal hinge has broken which requires you to replace the entire door. The way the seal is designed makes closing the door more difficult than I would like and now that the seal hinge is broken it is really a pain to close. Not very happy now, wish I would have gone with a different brand.
So why no more LG for me? I also bought the top end front loading washer and drier and my cloths don't come out as clean and as dry as they did with any others.
After ten thousand dollars of LG appliances, I would have expected a whole lot more for a whole lot longer!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
