Excellent for concert photography!

I go to many concerts and needed a camera with good zoom and quality. This camera definately has that. Concerts have some pretty weird lighting, but the SX210 was perfect for all kinds. It has a wonderful low-light performance for darker settings.
The video quality is excellent. Beautiful picture and pretty good sound, depending on the loudness of the band.
It is also excellent for outdoor shots. The colors are beautiful and precise.
I would recommend this camera for anybody who loves taking pictures, whether you are a beginner or an expert.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: flash in an awkward place

"This camera is such a wonderful unit. It replaces my Canon S80 (8.3 mp) that I purchased about 4 years ago. My new SX210 was put through many trials in the last 48 hours. Low light, running dogs HD movie in stereo, many zoom trials at Marco Island, stich assist for 360 degree panorama etc,etc.. I still can't believe the quality pictures I'm getting. Will be printing some on my 13" by 19" printer. I can enthusiastically recommend this camera to the novice who knows next to nothing about digital cameras -- all the way up to the professional that would like an extremely capable camera to carry in their shirt pocket. The 14 megapixel by 14x optical zoom to 56x total is great. See pictures I will try to upload. I love my 14 by 14 !!!!!!!!!!!!"
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

I have taken a lot of pictures with this camera and so far haven't found a thing wrong with it. I was one of the first ones to pre-order this camera and I love it! The pictures are crystal clear. It is small enough to carry in a pocket. I have it with me all of the time. I took it to my grand daughter's dance performance and it took excellent quality movies. I am an advanced amateur and have taken over 30,000 pictures with my various Canon cameras. This one is great to use with all of the features it has. For the price and features you will be very pleased. I will recomend this camera to everyone who loves taking pictures on the go.If you aren't familar with Canon cameras, be sure to read the owner's manual so you will know how to use the camera the best, or use the auto setting.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Good execution of a feature rich pocket camera

I have owned and still own several Canon cameras. As the quality and feature set of compact cameras has improved in recent years, I have found that more and more the small camera is what I reach for rather than my older, larger models.
The SX210 comes very close to filling the gap by employing a feature set nearly as complete as larger cameras with a photo and video quality that is also outstanding.
I know there are tradeoffs in squeezing features from larger cameras into the form factor of the SX210. Some controls that are a simple button push on a large camera are a couple of buttons and a menu away on the SX210. This is acceptable for my photography needs. It might not be for you, so you should definately try out the SX210 before you buy.
One trade off I am not happy about it the lack of a viewfinder. I like having the option to use one if I want. I also think the shutter button is more sensitive on the SX210 than any other Canon camera I've owned. It took a little getting used to and several wasted shots.
Canon continues to excell with its menus. They are intuitive and easy to navigate. I love that the Mode Dial is hard to turn on the SX210, preventing accidental changes of mode. On the otherhand, the Control Dial is almost too easy to turn, but I love the animation of my pictures flying on and off the screen as I turn it.
I appreciate that Canon has added support for Eye-Fi cards to the camera. An animated icon tracks when the card is wirelessly sending a copy of your picture to your computer or the web. I know that using Eye-Fi is an additional drain on the battery, but the little NB 5L has held up well. Kudos to Canon for trying to be green and minimize paper use. There is a printed quick start guide but the rest of your documentation is on the CD ROM.
All in all, the SX210 is a good compact camera; easy to carry and easy to use. It has lots of capability as well but there is a learning curve to be able to find and utilize some of that power.
Pros: excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings

Very Impressive

This is a great point and shoot camera with lots of features. The smile-shutter feature works surprisingly well. The image quality is superb. There's all sorts of great settings like black and white, fisheye, etc. The zoom is a little slow, but it's 14x zoom in a point and shoot...it's great. After trying another brand, I went back to canon because of their image quality and this camera is no exception.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, easy to use

Canon SX210

This Camera takes the clearest pictures and in the lowest light of any compact camera I have used. I have owned over 6 in recent years. There are 2 design flaws that keep me from giving this camera 5 stars on all counts. The back panel has buttons right where you put your thumb when you take pictures. The movies you take can't be copied as files without using the Canon software.
Pros: low light pictures are outstanding, telephoto + stabilization is exellent, small size with big camera features
Cons: buttons get pressed when you try to take pictures, pop up flash turns off too easily, on off is hard to use
I would recommend this to a friend!

Would have kept it IF it didn't have a design FLAW

Had the camera for about a month. I kept noticing a shadow at the bottom right of my photos. Turns out, when the lens is zoomed-out (so no zoom usage whatsoever), the lens is blocking part of the flash - hence, the shadow. There is an easy way around it - just zoom in a little. That being the case, I couldn't keep the camera because what if I forget to do so.
Loved that it has a 14x optical zoom. The settings are self-explanatory. Wish the flash didn't popup since my finger's used to being there - but at least Canon thought ahead and allowed for the flash to be manually turned on/off (by lifting the flash up or down).
One other thing - it's 3inch LCD yet when taking pictures, it's not being used to it's maximum capacity, hence the 2 black bars to the left and right of it. What's the point? I guess for video only?
Overall I was content with the camera - minus the design flash/lens shadow issue, which to me, is a big deal.
Waited months for this camera and now I have to keep searching for the one that fits my needs...
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings, Short battery life
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
