could use some improvement

This camera is easy and takes great pictures. The zoom is awesome. I do love the size and the weight and love the groove at the top.
I do have some complaints. I love the groove at the top of the camera for easy holding but my finger automatically rests in that groove right on the flash so when I turn on the camera, the flash wont open. I also accidentally close the flash because my hand wants to hold the camera and the flash is in the way.
Also.. Im struggling to find a way to have the flash on outside. Sometimes I want the natural light enhanced with the flash.. it wont flash! I would be happier if the battery would last longer too.
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable
Cons: Missing features/settings

disappointed

I have only had this camera for three months and it already needs repair. The LCD display has stopped working completely and I have to send it in. Besides that, there is a serious design flaw where the flash pops up- it is right where you would hold the camera with your left index finger. Would definetly NOT buy again.
Cons: Difficult to use
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

My surprise purchase
on October 13, 2011

While traveling overseas I dropped my Cannon G-7 and the lens jammed and would not retract. I still had 2 weeks to go on my trip and could not be without a camera so went into a camera shop in Edinburgh to see if they could possibly fix it. Unfortunately they advised me I would have to send it in. So I looked at what replacements were available and after a recommendation by the clerk I purchased this camera. I have been very pleased with it's performance, ease of use, low light pictures, and how portable it is. The price was great too. I liked my G-7 but this camera is a strong competitor as far as I am concerned.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: average battery life

Very Good Camera in General, for a compact camera
on August 7, 2010

This is a compact camera and not a digitalSLR.
outperforms by far other brands.
For a digital camera, it certainly perform better then other in it's price range. the image stabilizer is good and sometimes weak. it is the best compact camera for it's size. the next level up well does are SLR cameras. closes thing that fits in your pocket. out performs in some area than other cameras, but the best thing about it is the 14.1 mega pixel, auto pop up flash and then you say no flash by pushing it back in, or manually popping it up on the upper left corner.
weird sometimes to hold the camera, due to the flash being there. good at recording 720p HD video.
nice big screen to view your pictures or video on it. somewhat easy to explorer its features with the menu.
automatically rotates the picture or video when reviewing pictures or video. good mini hdmi connector, to connect to the TV directly.
the weight ratio of it is more light the heavy, but I find it somewhat balance.
it has all the features that you really need for a camera / digital camcorder.
awful orange light, when taking pictures. that is if you hold the button and then press down to take a picture. it kinda gives a heads up on a close range, hey I am taking a picture of you now. are you ready??? that little light beside the lense is really bright orange. just under the on/off button.
as for my third digital camera, well it rocks. for a CANON
I had 3 CANON digital cameras, and did do outperform the competition. I had another digital camera from a competitor, and I had a headache, so I stick with canon for pictures and video.
You just got to learn the camera, and tweaking it. oh did I forget to say read the manual, it helps to understand the features of it. apart from that this Camera is another good product from CANON which are well known for their cameras and video. stick with what works good.
if you need to send out a camera to repair for more then once, well that is a lemon. and this cam is not. it is a tank.
it just takes time to adjust and learn the cam.
Pros: 14 x lense zoom, 56 x digital zoom, manual or auto pop up flash or manual disable, compact camera
Cons: watchout for the lense when it comes out, 3 1/2" fully extended telescopiclenses, missing mini hdmi to normal hdmi cable, awful orange light when taking pictures.

Good camera

Good camera but has some issues in my opinion. On a recent trip took over 2000 pics with my new camera. Some of the items I'm not happy with: sometimes if you turn the camera vertially to take a picture, the LCD screen goes black. It takes the picture but you can't see what you're doing. The stitch assist is very difficult to 'get into' to use it. On the postitive side, it takes terrific shots most of the time. The LCD screen is VERY easy & bright to view and see what you're taking a picture of. Although heavier than my earlier Canon -- its weight is actually a plus -- you know you're holding it. BEST thing is its 14x zoom (56x aggregate zoom capability). You've be amazed at what you can zoom into a picture you're taking.

Best Canon Compact Yet!
on August 24, 2010

Finally - a compact, 14X zoom digital camera that lets you use optical zoom in movie mode - and HD with stereo at that! Also has a battery indicator that doesn't wait until the battery is nearly dead before telling you. Outstanding color and sharpness in photo and video modes. Pop-up flash can be clicked back down if not needed. Canon's best yet!
Pros: excellent 14x optical zoom in movie mode, battery charge indicator
Cons: annoying pop-up flash but can be pushed back down
I would recommend this to a friend!
