Excellent Product by Canon

For months i was in search of a really good digital camera having maximum features and high performance. At last found Canon Power Shot SX210-IS, read reviews, specifications and decided to buy it. I have no words how to describe the performance of this great master piece. The performance of this camera is beyond my expectations and in few days this camera has given me countless wonderful shots. The performance is more than what written about it. Clear bright LCD, sharp and crisp images, multiple modes from easy to manual. In short if you cannot buy a pro DSLR, Canon Power Shot SX210-IS would be the best option to go for. The movie feature is awesome and last but not the least the 14x optical zoom helps you to capture an image which is impossible for other cameras having less optical zoom.. Thumbs Up Canon for this marvelous product.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Great camera with one major flaw
on July 4, 2011
Posted by: Anonymous
Overall I really like this camera. I like to take my camera with me everywhere, so this camera usually ends up in my pocket or in a bag. It takes beautiful shots and pretty good video. I've been using this camera for about a year.
Now for the huge flaw I've found. The camera will easily fill with dirt, hair, and dust. Since the lens will zoom a great distance this allows dust to work its way inside the camera. I even have hair inside the lens. I believe this is from the movement of the lenses while zooming in and out. There are 3 parts that move and they seem to pull dirt into the camera - making it impossible to prevent this problem.
If I thought it were worth my time to have the inside of the lenses cleaned every couple of months or so, I'd keep this camera. You may have better luck if you keep this camera in a camera bag and out of dusty environments (do NOT store in a pocket).
Right now I'm looking for a comparable replacement. This camera takes excellent pictures when the dust inside the camera is not reflecting natural light.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Poor image quality, fills with dust
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Dust is a Big Problem
on August 15, 2011

I purchased this camera in the Spring and on the first day I used it noticed a problem with dust getting on the lens and inside the lens. Withing two months, dust and hair actually got inside the camera causing for significant quality issues. For the price of this camera, this should not be happening. Even worse, there is no way to fix this. I have used an air gun to try to loosen these particles, blown inside the camera, etc., and nothing works. You will see that the lens has a gap between the metal casing and the lens. Dust enters into the camera around all sides. There is no way to clean the inside of the camera. Otherwise, this camera could be great. Picture quality is fantastic and video quality was great when there was not this dust problem. Verdict: don't buy this camera.
Pros: easy to use, good video
Cons: Flimsy Construction, dust, lens construction
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is my second SX210 I enjoyed the camera so much I bought a second one for my girlfriend we take pics of everything. I picked the cameras up the week after they came out and as of yet I've experienced no problems. I had a role over car accident even in a soft sided camera case with freeway traffic I was able to recover my camera a couple scraches but still takes great pics.
Pros: good battery life, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use

Good value, easy to use

I agree with other reviewers who complained about the ergonomics of the camera. The flash pops up on power up and is a bit annoying, but you can hold your finger on the flash to prevent it from popping up. However, unlike the Rebels, the flash doesn't automatically pop up when needed - even in the full auto or easy mode.
I really like the 14X optical zoom as well as the wide angle. I did notice some green fringing around white objects at maximum zoom. In general the lens is quite sharp even at maximum zoom.
I was a bit disappointed in the auto focus. Recently, I was shooting in Maine, and in program mode, TV or AV modes, the auto focus did not function well when there was a lot of fog in the frame. Auto and Easy modes seemed to be able to lock on focus, however.
One of my complaints centers around the function dial. The round knob is fairly small, and those with large fingers might find it difficult to grasp. The small diameter also means that you have to apply quite a bit of torque to move between modes. In addition, the "play" (review) button is placed where I often accidentally bumped it while changing modes.
Others have also complained about the zoom mechanism, and I tend to agree. It, like the function dial, would be difficult to manipulate when wearing gloves. I find the function dial and zoom ring found on cameras such as my SD550 easier to use.
I would like to have seen more options in the Program mode - similar to what you find on a Rebel. The SX210 only gives you one Program setting.
These issues aside, I really do like the camera. I found the 720P video to be of much better quality than that found on competing point and shoot video cameras.
This camera replaces my SD550 which has served me well and has taken more than 11K photos. And, the 550 will still be included in our family travels as my wife's camera, and a backup should there be a problem with the SX210
Pros: good optical zoom, good image quality
Cons: clunky ergonomics

This is the perfect combination of size, value, ease of use and image quality. I am just a dad who is capturing memories, but the images are so much more clear and vibrant than any other camera that I have ever owned.

Pretty easy to use, yet so many features to delve into if you want to be technical. Compact, perfect for hiking, riding etc... Took it on a week long horse pack trip and got some AMAZING pictures while I was riding. Love the size, makes it really versitile. I've had it for 2 months and it has easy use buttons for the dummies like me but I like it so much now I'm just getting into learning some more technical stuff. Only wish it had a hard copy of the manual so I can learn everything whenever and wherever.
Pros: excellent quality
