Left me Unsatisfied

It is a small package with lots of functionality.
I gave my camera to a Canon DSLR user friend [having no time to explain the details] to take pictures of my granddaughter and me in a once in a lifetime event. Sadly, none of the pictures came . Completely blank shots. Because of the location of your flash position[ under the normal left hand index finger], the flash never did pop open.
Also the flash is VERY weak.
Pros: very compact with a big zoom
Cons: poorly placed and very weak flash
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Not that impressed

Had the camera for just the weekend and returned it. The major problem with this camera and any designed like this is the location of the built in flash. Just happens to be in the exact place where most people would put their fingers to steady the camera. I found myself putting my index finger where the flash cover was and wondered how long it would be before it wouldn't pop up anymore. Canon neeeds to redesign this feature.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Can't Be The Same Camera
on July 27, 2010

I purchased this camera last night. Charged, loaded and put it to the test: Absolutely the worst picture quality & LCD images. The LCD is full of noise, heavily pixelated, off-colors, and blurry. It hurts my eyes - but I snapped the pictures anyway. The pictures are better than the LCD but there's still a lot of graininess. I think I purchased a defective camera and will be returning it today. There's simply no way that my camera should have gotten any "good" reviews.
I'm a long-time Canon user. I shoot SLR film, digital and use Adobe. I'm loyal to quality, not brand. That said, I like the size, features and materials used. If it worked well, it would be a good pocket "point & shoot" that has a few extra, but very limited, controlling features. I own several cameras. I've gotten good pictures even using a cell phone because I work within its limitations. This camera is a Ford Cobalt. It isn't expected to perform like a Porsche and right now, I just want the engine to start. I gave it 2-stars based on its potential.

Yes BUT!

Canon I hope you are reading this. WHERE IS THE "Vari angle LCD". Without it while your offerings are good, they are no longer great, and you become just one of the other guys.
Yes the new "wink" feature is cool, but your older "A" series was the best value ever. With the ability to shoot from angles (otherwise only available if you carry a latter around or be willing to get on the ground for a shot) a Vari angle LCD brings out the curative genius in all who use this feature.
BRING IT BACK. Yes I know it's on the "G11" but it needs to be made available at a lower price point ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings
I would recommend this to a friend!

Must have a lemon

My photos typically are blurry, though I'm using automatic settings appropriately and have the IS on. I've had Canon digital cameras in the past, and I've never had such a problem. I am starting to suspect I have a lemon, as I've gone thru all settings and cannot see anything that seems improper. I do not consider myself an expert with manual settings, so I stick with the auto settings. Any movement at all leads to a blur. Most photos have been indoor and just terrible. My outside photos turned out most wonderful though -- that was superior photo quality. I am just so surprised at the indoor quality, I now think I just have a lemon and will try to return it (I've had it 2 months so we'll see how this return process goes).

not as good as it sounds

This camera sounds wonderful. Buyer beware. It does combine the point and shoot with the SLR options. It looks great on the 3inch LCD...put it on your computer and you see a grainy image with nearly zero depth of field. I have bought Canon Point and Shoots in the past and have been more that happy with the AUTO option. Either I have recieved a malfunctioning camera or this line is highly disappointing. It did not take long to upload images as other reviews mentioned. I bought this camera because I just wanted the option to play with the SLR side of it but intended on relying on the AUTO feature.
Cons: Poor image quality
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Camera broke within 30 days

The pictures and features are ok, but the camera broke within 30 days. Be sure you buy an extended warranty. I was surprised, because I have always bought Cannon non-digitals and they were excellent. I still have a single reflex that is 20 years old and works great. I thought the digitals would be just as good. Probably too much out-sourcing.
Cons: add a con

Returned after 2 days

I needed a camera for a trip to Australia. I bought this camera before a wine tour the week before to test it out. The pictures I took were very blurry. The ones that I took at night were useless. I returned it for a lesser model- the Canon SD 980, which takes great photos and is considerably less expensive.
Pros: zoom capability
Cons: blurry pictures, image stabilizer doesn't work
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
