Not Happy

I waited until the week before taxes were due to start my taxes and was dismayed that the CA SDI bug was not fixed. I properly uploaded the lasted updates and was still greeted with the issue while trying to file.
I've used Turbo Tax for over a decade and have come to expect superior results. Leaving known problems to remain unresolved that long is unprofessional...makes me wonder how valued I am.

What's great about it: Thorough, understandable and easy to follow

Easy to use

I did a very careful job answering all the questions because I wanted to make sure I got it right. However, after finishing I reviewed the actual returns and discovered several incorrect entries. That took another 2 hours to make it correct. But it did mean $120 more in my state refund. Score!
What's great about it: I liked how detailed the program was.
What's not so great: It took more hours than I thought. I'm glad I started a week and a half before due date.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Non techie using TurboTax

It was way better than going to a CPA and paying all that money and having no input in how they were done.
What's great about it: It was fun because it went beown my comfort level
What's not so great: I got tired before I was done
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I really like this product. I work in the IT industry, and we often refer to Turbo Tax as an example of excellent user interface and user experience when we are designing applications for our customers.
What's great about it: Ease of use
What's not so great: Sometimes difficult to match numbers from panels to tax forms

It was great until...

I hadn't put it the recipient name and address on three 1099Rs. Turbo tax caught two of the errors, but didn't catch the third instance, even though I re-checked for errors. Both returns kicked back at me for e-filing.
Also, Turbo tax is great for straightforward returns, but for more complex issues the preparer had better have a good idea of how their finished return should look.
After you've used Turbo Tax or other tax prep software, the step by step is awfully slow.

2015 Journey

On a good note, Intuit admitted their mistake and send me a refund....
I have used the product for 10+ years and would not know what to do without it!

It does your taxes

I've used TurboTax for years, but not last year. Not only did I have to pay to upgrade (when everyone else got it for free), but it would only import last year's file. Why can't it import from previous years? I had to re-type all the basic stuff, like address and kids' names. The user interface is still clunky .. the "next" button is ALWAYS just far enough down the page that you have to scroll on EVERY page to advance, even though most questions don't pertain to you.
