MFJ / MFS issue
on April 9, 2015

feature request: make it easier to file an MFJ, and then a state return for only one spouse. One help node suggested filing the MFJ, then copying the MFJ to a MFS to file state. Include this help node content directly in the UI if it is detected that only one spouse lived in another state.
What's great about it: friendly

Need a lot more info on Schedule K-1 Foreign Income and Taxes. Your terms a nd boxes didi not match any of the three separate Trust accounts, all of whom were consistent with each other.
What's great about it: Walks you right through with good help available, too.
What's not so great: A little tricky with Foreign Investments
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

I liked that tracked last year's 1099s and made sure I had info from the same ones. One 1099 was missing and I had time to obtain a duplicate! (I'd rather hear from TurboTax than IRS that I missed a 1099)

A great tool, as always, but not perfect

We have used TT for years, and count on it for accurate, easy tax prep. This year, for the first time, we have to sign in with our intuit account name and password every time we open TT to work on our OWN computer, not online. I called intuit to ask about this, and was told it was only because I had just installed an update. This was true. THEN, another update came along, and we're back to that, every time. NO!!! It is up to me to decide what level of security I want when working on a program that I purchased that is running in my home on my own machine. Stop trying to assume what is best for your clients! Otherwise... good stuff! :)
What's great about it: Easy, step-by-step
What's not so great: Having to sign in with intuit password, on MY computer.

Appreciate the convenience and accuracy that TT provides.
What's great about it: I don't have to think about each subject -- TT reminds me.
What's not so great: A bit time-consuming for filers with relatively uncomplicated lives.

Great Program Except

For safety reasons I do the return both on a Windows PC as well as an iMac. Duplicating the file on the Mac caused the program to crash and it would not restart. Ended up e Filing the return on the Win7 PC. Discovered a database error had been generated on my iMac. I had to reinstall the program on the Mac, copy the file from Windows and restart. All was good. The step by step stuff is tedious. Much better to work on the forms as needed (of course it is necessary to be somewhat tax savvy). I have been using TurboTax since the 90's so am pretty familiar with the quirks.
What's great about it: Easy to use, easier if one is tax savvy
What's not so great: Crashed on the iMac
Pros: I bought or sold investments
