TurboTax 2014

When purchasing I thought State efile was included and the cost to efile CA seems extremely high. It seems a shame that I will print this state return and snail mail it.
What's great about it: Relatively easy to use for a very complex subject
What's not so great: Some of the language does not coincide with language used on my k1.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Dividends and capital gains need to be included with the deluxe version. This has NOT been a problem in the past.
What's great about it: Rather easy
What's not so great: Shouldn't need Premeir Edition, for dividends and capital gains
Pros: I bought or sold investments

so easy

I have been using Turbo Tax for years. The previous year data is transferred into the current year, and I never have to look back. It is fast and reliable. All you need to do is input and choose the right answer when the program asked you a few questions. When you have doubt, the program explains well. It is time saving and accurate.
What's great about it: simply do your input the turbo tax will do the rest.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Minor problem

I'm a salaried employee with restricted stock units. I didn't sell them all, and the calculation was wrong. I filled out everything it asked and it still didn't match the number on my W2.
Everything else was flawless, which is high praise, really.
What's great about it: Most of it just worked
What's not so great: Unsold RSUs were not added to compensation.

Wasted time importing UBS
on April 9, 2015
Posted by: DaveO64
First time using import for UBS Financial. Imported to wrong catagory (e.g. Long-term w basis not reported to IRA became Short-term). Tried to modify catagory - that didn't work and ended up messed up more. deleted and re-import messed up things more. Numbers don't add up. Upon printing forms for review found double counting (information "deleted" previosly were still there!).
What's not so great: buggy importing forms from UBS. Kept messing up and double counting. Ended up had to input manually

Problems with questions for deceased person
on April 9, 2015
Posted by: GilW77
See title, pros and cons above. Also, I filled in address as my home address as personal representative but no more info to look at to clarify that this should be the address of the person filing the return for the deceased person. Confusing sometimes. Your instructions say when you complete the contact info box that your name will be shown where signature goes but it did not print with my name in that box. Also, third party designee checked no. I don't recall answering a question about that - seems my name as personal representative should be printed and yes checked. I will go back and search for that question. It was helpful to be able to complete the form on behalf of my brother's estate but I will still need to have a tax preparer look at it to be sure it is correct.
What's great about it: Mostly easy to complete
What's not so great: After you complete the deceased info, the questions say "you" and confusing.
