Another Painless Tax Return
on April 8, 2015
Posted by: KCMOCPA
Let's be honest - no one really likes filing taxes. TurboTax makes an unappealing chore much less painful. The interface is easy to use and makes sense. The software provides all the support you need, but lets you choose the option to move the helping hand out of the way if preferred. This is a really solid DIY option; and in my experience, is backed up with a hugely superior level of expertise than most tax preparers.
What's great about it: Clear, Concise, Got out of my way

All in all, still a very good product! TT forced me to call a prior year state tax refund as a refund to my business (and I don't have a business).
What's great about it: Ease of use
What's not so great: Had to pay for State Tax e-File

This is the 6th year in a row I've used turbo tax and it gets easier every year. I never have to worry about forgetting any thing because the program walks me through every step. What a fantastic product! Thanks Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: Straight forward, easy to use.
What's not so great: Getting kind of pricey

Very Easy to Understand
on April 8, 2015

Good, logical step-by-step instructions. If you have your paperwork/forms with you, it is easy to work through the tax forms by answering the Turbo Tax questions in each category. However, I would like the [PRINT] option to occur BEFORE the [E-FILE] page. It would be great to have a hardcopy to review before I e-file.
What's great about it: Great step-by-step instructions. Easy to continue or go back to a previous page.
What's not so great: Would like the print option BEFORE the e-filing page. What about car mileage 4 volunteer work?
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Fast and Friendly for the most part
on April 8, 2015

In general, TurboTax, which I've used for years, makes completing our return fast and is user-friendly. The Guide Me option takes you through each section step-by-step with explanations and suggestions based on your situation. As long as you've kept complete records, you should have no problem filing your federal return.
On the other hand, the state return always leaves me feeling just a bit less confident. I'm never sure whether I need to complete additions/subtractions from income based on what the program tells me, and I would like to have to option to print out the Federal return for review before starting the state portion. Still, I've never had any trouble with the state return, but I always wonder whether I'm paying a bit more than necessary to the state.
I love the e-filing capability and the ability to pay my taxes when due out of my bank account automatically. I also love being able to use It's Deductible to help with charitable donations.
Overall, I love TurboTax and plan to continue using it. It makes our somewhat difficult return much easier (and cheaper!) to prepare.
What's great about it: The Guide Me gives peace of mind. Past yr return info can be transferred and included automatically.
What's not so great: State return portion doesn't give me 100% confidence.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Perhaps my last time with TurboTax
on April 8, 2015

Having used TurboTax for a number of years, it definitely makes my tax preparation easier since it keeps track of last year's information as well as any carryover e.g. capital loss. In all the years I've used TurboTax, the Deluxe version has always been sufficient for my needs. I was surprised to find out this year that the Deluxe version does not include the investment portion. If I wanted it, I would need the Premier version for significantly more. Because of the uproar raised by many people in my situation, Intuit "upgraded" the software for free to include the investment portion. That being said, the damage is done. If the software is set up the same way next year, I will bite the bullet and use something else and start over.
What's great about it: Ease of use if you've been using TurboTax for years
What's not so great: Change in product without obvious announcement
Pros: I bought or sold investments
