Good Except for K-1 treatment
on April 8, 2015
Posted by: CrewmateGerry
I have used TT for over 20 years and entering all data is easy, except for the supplemental data in some boxes of K-1 forms. The words in the drop down menu selections rarely correspond with the words used in the supplemental data provided with the K-1 and the method of correcting this from the review is not clear nor specific. It is extremely frustrating and becomes a game of guessing what data to enter until the review is satisfied.
What's great about it: Covers all my income and deduction situations
What's not so great: Supplemental data in K-1 entry is not well treated

Worked well (mostly)
on April 8, 2015

The program included the wrong income for my PA non-resident tax return. The help center lady showed me an easy way to edit the data and also refunded my state program purchase price.
What's great about it: excellent customer service
What's not so great: you have to go through all the steps if you are revising any entries
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Good product, makes filing relatively easy. Saves cost of accountant. I would like it if there was a summary of each 1099 available.
What's great about it: Reaches out and gets W-2 and 1099s Comparison to previous years
What's not so great: None
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

turbotax getting harder to use
on April 8, 2015
Posted by: cindy8622
I used to love turbo tax, but the last two years (2013 and 2014) have been a nightmare for me. Strange errors and forms pop up and then disappear. The help section, which used to be helpful is not helpful at all any more. Instead of asking straight forward questions like, is this a long term or short term investment, strangely worded errors occur, and also the forms I have to fill in on turbo tax are not labelled the same as the forms I get from the company I work for. This software is supposed to be helpful when doing one's taxes, but I am at the point of looking for an accountant because it is just getting too hard to figure out what to enter. I never feel completely comfortable filing my taxes because for the last two years I have made errors because of turbo tax that ultimately cost me money. Also please move the continue button further up on the window because I always have to scroll down to see it..on every screen!
What's great about it: easier than paper and pencil
What's not so great: hard to understand, help is no help, weird intermittent errors

The Walk Through
on April 8, 2015
Posted by: Sueling46
Overall, found the guided walk through somehow easier this year than in years past.. Questions that I needed to ask, were going to be either non-existant or at best, difficult to locate. However, due to imported data from last year, those questions appeared at the right time for me to answer. Made a huge difference in my tax bill!
My only complaintis not being able to access the "Its Deductible" because I couldn't access my password from a previous year. I did enter everything manually and based valuation on my own experience as a volunteer at a chairty thrift store that directly benefits the patients and families in a major hospital in my state.
What's great about it: the guided walk through, import of last year's data
What's not so great: unable to access the password for the donation valuation list that I know I have used in the past.
