Turbotax works for me ... great value!

Turbo Tax cannot replace the future focused advice you might receive from a competent expert/advisor ... one who knows YOU and your financial situation and can tie tax planning to your possible future life changes.
However ... you can use a copy of your formal Turbo Tax filing to to work through a "what if" analysis of expected future changes (e.g. retirement, selling equities, etc.).
What's great about it: I like moving through all the forms at my pace knowing I am following a proven process aligned with IRS requirements.
What's not so great: For my needs, there are no cons ... it works for me.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Fast and Easy

Very helpful software. Very easy to use for most tax situations. I was using a tax professional for years and they missed a key deduction specific to my industry. I had to file amended returns but still lost out on a key deduction. I began using TurboTax and have enjoyed a reduction in my total tax bill.
What's great about it: Ease of use. Quick accurate answers.
What's not so great: Being charged extra to file a state return.

slow and messy

about 3 year ago, you made changes that slowed the program down substantially. and did not help anything. you also removed some forms(1099misc) and others, from the basic and moved them to the premier, instead of just adding them to the deluxe. i understand that you are trying to make more money, but come on. think this out. the earlier software was better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
What's great about it: 80% is good as always
What's not so great: 20% slow and unnecessary

I have been using TurboTax for over a decade. It is so much easier than a manual system or using a professional tax preparer that I have converted several of my friends to devotees.
What's great about it: How easy can taxes be? Try TurboTax. The second year is even easier!
What's not so great: The elimination of Schedule D in TurboTax DeLuxe was a shock!
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Another year of simple and easy tax preparation. Even with a problem on a city tax form, all I did was call the toll free number and my issue was taken care of immediately. Just as I expected it would. Thanx Turbo Tax!
What's great about it: walked you through everything, very simple

It went real well until the end when it said I had to file an arizona return. I lived in Arizona from january on but I did not make any income there as I was a Washington state resident. Need to fix that
What's great about it: easy to download financial info
What's not so great: kept telling me to file a arizona return when I did not live in arizona during tax year

Recording 529 Distributions
on April 8, 2015

I had difficulty getting turbo tax NOT to tax my 529 distributions that I used for eligible college expenses. I entered the distributions in the income section and I entered the eligible expenses in the education expense section. When I entered the 1099Q from the university, I kept getting an error that I couldn't put a value in Box1 & 2 (billed and paid). I manipulated some numbers in order not to get taxed, but I know I'm going to get a letter about it.
What's not so great: 529 distribution problems
