I was pretty disappointed because of all the files that were hacked this year on Turbo Tax. The step by step worked very good in the past but this year the software did not pick up my HSA contribution and I had to enter it into form 8889 manually. No refund for me.
What's great about it: step by step
What's not so great: missed 8889 step 2 contribution to HSA

Purchased Premier this year thinking it would be more workable than Deluxe, but did NOT find that to be the case. Will go back next year to Deluxe.
What's great about it: Yes it is easier to do one's taxes using Turbo Tax
What's not so great: Several pages of the Premier Edition should be made easier to understand and enter required information
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Great product. Would like more ease of seeing exactly where data goes on each tax form.
What's great about it: Accurate, easy to use
What's not so great: Hard to find where some numbers were entered

More frustrating than in the past

Have been using TurboTax since 2000. This year, it seemed harder for some reason. Seems to import less data, needs to do a better job extracting things like foreign interest & dividend income. It can find that there was some. When doing the foreign interest section, I seemed to go around in circles answering the same questions over & over again. Save to cloud function isn't working for some reason
What's great about it: collects information from past returns
What's not so great: Sort contributions function, needs to pull foreign income from 1099

Still some institutions do not enable download capabilities. The tax credit for education expenses aren't explained well. Eligibility and how 529 account withdraws impact the credits and income for the dependent student and the parents are not readily apparent. Used It's Deductible for the first time. Worked great and saved us a lot of time entering charitable contributions.
What's great about it: Most of my financial information can be downloaded saving lots of typing and potential errors.
What's not so great: Lack of download capability for some institutions, Credit explanation and transperancy.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Can't get the whole credit for foreign tax paid

After trying for two days to look for what could have gone wrong, I gave up and chose to use the deduction route. It seems to me that the "step by step" method was very good for finding all opportunities, but not too easy to debug when I already know the targeted result, in this case dollor for dollor retrun as tax credit.
I went through the same hurdles in 2013 also. It did finally worked after a long struggle. You may want to find a new person to develope a different procedure for this task. For example, if the target is not yet right, ask more questions!
