Easy Peasy
on April 6, 2015

We have used turbo tax for years and it is simple with understandable instructions that are easy to follow. It also provides secondary guidance for the "other questions" one may have.
What's great about it: Walk through of return with easy to follow instruction
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Changes for the worse
on April 6, 2015
Posted by: LeeInSFBay
The changes in 2014 are a disappointment and make the product worse, rather than better. Intuit seems to becoming more focused on making money and less on making a great product.
What's great about it: Tax prep went quickly
What's not so great: Encryption gives key to Intuit; printing uses Intuit services; too many ads

2014 Tax experience
on April 6, 2015

Overall a very good experience in that you can hand-hold or dive directly to items of interest.
What's great about it: fast, easy mostly straight-forward
What's not so great: estimated tax entry did not carry thru a state abbrevation, caught later in review - SW bug?

CD and Online versions don't talk to each other
on April 6, 2015
Posted by: hikingskier
I bought CD version thinking it would automatically import my taxes from past years from the online versions that I used in the past, since I had all this stored on my computer. The roundabout way to do this was too confusing and I couldn't get to work so had to manually type in all my personal data and last year's results. Negated the reason for continuing to use Turbo Tax. Intuit needs to figure an easier way to make the online and CD see each other.
What's great about it: does all my calculations
What's not so great: cannot import past online taxes into CD-ROM versions

1099 income
on April 6, 2015

did not include prompt to declare 1099 income as scholarship--automatically sent me into self employed which requires social security and medicare taxes while scholarships are subject to these taxes
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Simple to use
on April 7, 2015
Posted by: summershandy
This year I had bought the investment version due to some changes in investment strategies. I've been using turbotax since 2006 and haven't experience any problems with the program. Transferring investment information is simple and straight forward. However, after reading other reviews online I might have been able to use the deluxe version as in previous years for me. I guess I am just comfortable using turbotax after many years.
What's great about it: Questions are easy to understand
What's not so great: Can't think of any
Pros: I bought or sold investments
