DID NOT LIKE THAT I NEEDED PREMIER VERSION TO ENTER INVESTMENT SALES. IN PRIOR YEARS WAS INCLUDED IN DELUXE VERSION. THIS YEAR THERE WAS A FREE UPGRADE BUT NEXT YEAR WILL YOU CHARGE FOR THAT? I WOULD HAVE TO BUY THE PREMIER VERSION JUST TO ENTER ONE INVESTMENT SALE? THAT WOULD BE DISAPPOINTING.
What's great about it: TURBOTAX IS EASY TO USE. I HAVE USED FOR MY FAMILY FOR 15 YEARS.
What's not so great: DID NOT LIKE THAT I NEEDED PREMIER VERSION TO ENTER INVESTMENT SALES. IN PRIOR YEARS WAS INCLUDED IN DELUXE VERSION.

Turbo tax rocks!

More examples in Explain this sections would help clarify if I am eligible or not. Or best if there are any recommendations based on one's profile. For example - indicate where possible, places where other turbo tax users with similar profile sought tax benefits, highlight them for review. Help setup a company via turbo tax especially if that proves beneficial from a tax perspective to the user.
Overall, I love turbo tax. Tax filing is quick and easy.
What's great about it: Importing relevant tax documents is great. Showing the audit risk scale is useful.
What's not so great: Message like "W2 data verified with tax filing" would give comfort. For e.g. - Less 401(k) in D-box 12 in W2 isnt seen
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Economical and easy solution to taxes

Some of the turbo tax errors are obviously software bugs (like instead of just checking if a field value has been entered, TT should also check that the value is non-zero) and the error descriptions are totally odd. Needed to get phone support to resolve. Other than this hassle, a very easy to use product
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Some errors are indecipherable and need to have phone support to resolve

TurboTax 2014

I have been using TurboTax since the 1990s (20+ years). So far, not been audited. (knock on wood) I have rentals, but not a business. Still, I need the "Investments and Rental Property" (formerly Premiere) level of the software. Outstanding software, esp. when e-filing was introduced a number of years ago. Refunds arrive in about 2 weeks on average. I will continue to use TurboTax in the future. My only complaint, and it's nitpicking, is that when I delete, say a financial institution that paid me interest, I can't undelete it. One year, I discovered the next night, that I did indeed have a statement from them. Not hard to re-enter that financial institution, but it would be nice to be able to look at a list of deleted entries and undelete it. Still 5 stars.
What's great about it: Very clear about what info is required. The "mini-summary' screens show how I am progressing.
What's not so great: If a "source" of income, deduction, etc., is deleted, you can't "undelete". Maybe a "hide" option would be nice.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Premier Tax Upgrade Bummer!
on April 5, 2015

Turbo Tax is much less expensive than H. R. Block, especially when I provided all the information to the accountant and all she had to do was add the info to the forms just like I have done for years with Turbo Tax. However, this year I purchased the Deluxe version and needed to enter one number as a Capitol Loss Carryover and Turbo Tax required me to upgrade to Premier. Turbo didn't even need to do any calculations it was just one number I had already calculated last year! Now I will need to purchase Premier addition as long as I have the Loss Carryover! Such a rip-off!
What's great about it: Instructions for the most part are clear and easy to understand
What's not so great: Not able to adjust a form with out answering the questions
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Last second glitch prevents Arkansas e-filing
on April 5, 2015

So, I'm at the end and I click that last submit button. You know, the one that's just like dropping these returns in the mail. Right. I click the button and get a window that says the program needs more information - click continue to see what it is. I click continue and it says that the "Exempt Int Description-3 on AR4 has too many characters."
Ok, long story short, I can't find it and if I could I can't change it because it is on the Federal form. (Can't find it on the Federal form either.) Even if I did find it, reimporting it from the Federal to the State form would mess who knows what else up.
In the end, I de-selected e-filing the State return.
Solution: truncate these description fields - automatically!
What's great about it: No problems until submit returns button
What's not so great: Lack of simple command to truncate description field
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Maneuverability Worsens! A big step back! Why?
on April 5, 2015

Maybe it's because I've switched to a Mac from a PC, but Premier is not as workable as it has been in past years.
What's great about it: Got taxes done, took more time.
What's not so great: More difficult to look at forms, and to print only forms that need to be filed.
