You changed horses in the middle of OCEAN (No not a stream)
NOT a true carry over! SHUCKS price increase is OK BUT
NOT when you made a major CHANGE in the format AND then tried to hide it.

You no doubt will have MAJOR competition in the coming years. I will sure be looking !!!

Traditional IRA conversion to Roth IRA (backdoor)

Turbo Tax is very confusing on the methods needed to preform a "backdoor" Roth IRA conversion from a traditional IRA.
In attempting to do this conversion you may find yourself calling the conversion a recharacterization and then have a 6% excise tax placed on your conversion. You may also be double taxed on such a conversion when entering the 1099-r data in Turbo Tax and then doing the IRA conversion to a Roth IRA in later sections of Turbo Tax.. This problem has been an issue for years and the only bright spot is an article from "thefiancialbuff.com" dealing specifically with the problems of Turbo Tax, and other, tax software. I wish Turbo Tax would stream-line this process for those of us whom convert traditional IRAs into Roth IRAs.

I have been using Turbo Tax for many years and love this product. However, it always takes longer to get the updates feature to work than it does to do my taxes. I'm prepared with my reports and figures, but the updates usually freeze and I have to contact Customer Service. Customer Service is always great!
What's great about it: I can go through each section and determine whether it applies to me or not.
What's not so great: There is usually a problem in downloading the updates.

I think turbotax could even better if there was better help or links to either the state help (CO for example) or turbotax could do the searching itself and provide the help from their website or program.
What's great about it: Fairly Easy to import documents
What's not so great: Help for some Fed forms lacking and virtually little help for State Forms
Pros: I bought or sold investments

on charities, - ask for all the info at the same time. you go thru the list of charities and deductions, then it forces yo to go back and enter the address. do all of it at once, done make us go back thru all the paper files to get addresses.
The "Get another State" form section didnt work, and no one was available on Sat / Sunday to help.
An we had to pay a penalty for owing more than $1000...this should have come up on one of the closing screens to tell people ... i didn't see it unit after i printed out the summary sheet.
Probably going back to H&R block next year.
What's great about it: like the ability to get estimated dollars for deductions
What's not so great: this is getting more and more cumbersome to use.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

No more spending days and days doing my taxes and then several more days checking all the math. TurboTax does it all,… and fast. I've been using the software since it was MacinTax; it just keeps getting better and better.
What's great about it: Everything works as it should
