Pros: I bought or sold investments

Mock Fed Filing Issues
on April 5, 2015
Posted by: ChucksterJ3rd
The cons pretty much details my frustration. Also, twice my turbo tax unexpectedly quit and erased my input. Finally, I could not find one of my encrypted returns from last year.
What's great about it: There is a way to do it
What's not so great: You can't e file states associated with mock federal returns
Pros: I moved, I bought or sold investments

Excellent Tax Software!
on April 5, 2015
Posted by: RowdyRon
Love this software! Anyone can prepare their own taxes if they take the time and follow the directed instructions. You can save your progress at any time and come back to it later to complete if you get tired. I always use TurboTax to file my Federal and State taxes. Thank you for a high-quality product! Will see you again next year!
What's great about it: Easy input and step-by-step process
What's not so great: A little vague on specialized forms such as K1
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Great Product and Easy as Usual
on April 5, 2015

Transfer of information from previous years makes this product very fast and user friendly. Has very good help options and I like the options of using the wizards and selecting sections on my own.
Definitely a top-shelf software and makes my life much easier.
What's great about it: Ease of use

Fool Me Once
on April 5, 2015

Even though TT pulled back the buy up to Premium subterfuge, I still accepted Tax Cut's offer of a free software download and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was able to import my 2013 data from TT and that it could import my financial data from Fidelity and Vanguard. The user experience with Tax Cut was not quite as user friendly as TT, but it's good to know that Tax Cut Deluxe + State will do everything that I need to do without having to pay up for the Premium version.
What's great about it: Slightly better user experience than Tax Cut
What's not so great: Only after you have paid for Deluxe do they tell you you need to buy up to Premium

2014 Tax Year Review
on April 5, 2015
Posted by: PCWHEEL
My wife and I live in New Jersey; I work in Delaware. Turbotax adds in my wife's income when creating the Delaware return. It's not even smart enough to know better. I had to do a separate scenario where I created another return where I filed federal separately and then filed delaware separately. Turbotax should have done a better job. I'm not happy with all the extra work I had to do. I will consider a competing product next year.
What's great about it: Guides me thru each item fairly well
What's not so great: Not smart enough to anticipate situations that it should.

Good but not easy
on April 5, 2015

Found TT generally easier to use this year than in prior years. Step-by-step is generally good, and takes you through.
When basic mistakes are made couldn't figure out how to correct. Effort to do so just messed things up further and had to abort and go back to the way it was. Some corrections (not in amounts, but in names or IDs# were either difficult or impossible #had to delete and start over#. Had to live with a major potential issue, time will tell if it is significant or not.
A continuing IRRITATION: can't alphabetize charitable contributions. We make a lot, and it's really annoying to NOT be able to add in missed donations in alpha order., Makes it really tough to check and avoid double entries.
It would be very helpful to have summary wages, salary, pensions #incl. SS income listing with all categories). Tax payment worksheet was very useful.
For reasons I couldn't figure TT did not see previous year's taxes. We've used TT for over ten years.
What's great about it: YOU can do it
What's not so great: Changes in some areas impossible; can't alphabetize charities
