This is my 18th year. Even that the returns get more complex, I feel confident since I feel guided step by step.
What's great about it: It guides you step by step
What's not so great: None
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Good for basic items; poor for Roth IRA/Rental FMV

Turbo Tax, as always, is great at the things everyone experiences, but is not as strong at special rental/investment cases as they should be if they advertise a version called "Investments and Rental Property."
2 BIG issues:
1# Description of FMV or "below FMV" is weak. It only calculates FMV by the county one lives in...so if someone's place is in an upscale area of a huge county like Cook County--Chicago--in IL that also encompasses extremely depressed areas, it is hard to trust the "comparisons." These "comparisons" should be conducted by ZIP CODE or Census tracts, not by county.
2) Although the "answer center" online said that TT would help me calculate my Roth IRA contribution limits for earners in the upper end "phase out" income range, it never did...and I went through every single option with a fine-toothed comb. I had to go to the IRS website myself to calculate my "phase out" limit for my Roth. There is a worksheet for this, as well as a Fidelity website calculator, so there is no reason why a computer tax program cannot also ingest the calculation to help maximize.
Yes, these are "first world problem" issues, and I was able to use the online IRS worksheets myself to arrive at my answers, but given that I paid extra for the "investments and rental property" version of TT for these two very reasons, I was less than thrilled.
What's great about it: Thorough
What's not so great: Weak in FMV rentals and Roth IRA limits

Does it RIGHT

Pretty straight forward to make entries and get automatic results of calculations. Had a little trouble getting the automobile tax and the state sales tax rate in correctly. Other than that, everything went smoothly. Being able to import investment sales is a real plus.
What's great about it: quick, easy, automatic calculations, import inputs
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Using the TurboTax Premier Edition is much like using the simpler editions. It's quick and it's easy. And it includes investments, which is important to most retirees.
What's great about it: Quick and easy — once upgraded ($$)
What's not so great: Had to upgrade - no choice given

The wording of the instruction created a very light-hearted tone as opposed to the usual serious boring tone of anything tax-related.
What's great about it: Easy to use.
What's not so great: None

I usually enjoy the ease of filing with TT, but now that K-1's and foreign tax credit need to be filed, TT Premier fails to make filing simple and straightforward. They need to fix these glitches where duplicate forms must be filed or I will start looking for another product or accountant.
What's great about it: Great for most straight forward filings
What's not so great: TT Premier's handling of K-1 statements and foreign tax credit where duplicate filings are required is frustrating.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

I thought my return would take 8 to 10 hours, but this went quick and I was totally done and filed my returns in less that 3 hours!
What's great about it: The instructions tell you some info will be entered later which let's you proceed with confidence.
What's not so great: Basically NONE.
