I found everything I needed easily. This is still the most reliable and best tax prep software.
What's great about it: Comprehensive

Passable but disappointed

TurboTax is too smart, I guess. It told me "no" when I tried to E-File, because Form 8949 data was imported badly, and I had to correct it. Believe it or not, I wanted those overrides no matter how many times it asked me to cancel them.
If your forms have an override, it's time to dust off the printer. Our modern technologies, integrated systems, electronic payment systems--none of them can withstand the red pen.
I'm having trouble justifying the cost for software that lets me correct bad values but then refuses to accept any changes. I got Premier for a reason, and manually correcting imported data only to be told "no" was not it.
What's great about it: No Excel or calculator needed
What's not so great: I still did the hard parts by hand

Another Smooth year
on April 4, 2015

Having been using TurboTax for many years and I have always found it to be easy to use. I use it for my own return and for my elderly mother's return. I don't know why people with simple returns would ever use a paid preparer. By using TurboTax you develop some knowledge of how to manage your investments and deductions to minimize your taxes. As long as Congress doesn't make last minute changes you can even prepare a preliminary return before the end of the year to see where you stand and you can take steps to optimize your situation.
What's great about it: Intuitive and easy to use. Seamlessly links to State return
What's not so great: None

Programmers need to improve the product
on April 4, 2015

The program ask you to pay for an efile before it is sure that an efile is possible based on the Fed return. Then you have to spend extended periods of time to attempt to get a refund. As if filing taxes is not a big enough pain.
What's great about it: Fairly reliable
What's not so great: Is not intuitive enough

Stock Options
on April 4, 2015

The handling of the sale of stock options is very confusing. I know what the right answer is but it is hard to get there. I sold stock options and paid taxes on them. All this was reported in my W2 but then the gross proceeds were included in the return. It was not easy to cancel out this bogus gain.
What's not so great: Sale of stock options is not clear.

Worked just fine, as usual

I heard some negative comments about TurboTax in the news, but apparently they corrected the issue and all required forms were available in the Deluxe edition. I hope this continues.
What's great about it: Imported previous year's data, handled all my documents
What's not so great: no way to skip initial request for information, though I filled it once
Pros: I bought or sold investments

My Turbo Tax Review
on April 4, 2015

It is a great way to do your taxes. You don't have to have everything all at once. You can do it over serveral days. This helps so that if it asks for something that you don't have on hand right away you can stop and get it then continue. That way you can make sure that all that you qualify for you don't miss.
What's great about it: Helps me understand taxes

Needs more explanation for first time house owner
on April 4, 2015
Posted by: sundaramravi
when entering my stock statements that was sold for covering taxes by brokerage company there was not enough help available straight. I find it in the turbo tax help statements.
Also it was not clear what box in form 1099 matches turbo tax form.
Multiple situation [esp based on brokerage i chose] should be explained in the help document
The fees i had to enter for initial buying houses is not so clearly explained. I could not match my HUD statements to the items in the turbo tax forms.
What's great about it: easy to use once understood
What's not so great: need better help & explanation
