TURBO TAX IS GREAT...MY PROBLEM WAS FINDING THE DOCUMENTS WITH THE DATA NEEDED FOR FILING THE RETURN.
What's great about it: ABLE TO FILE FOR MYSELF, PARENTS & DECEASED BROTHER
What's not so great: STILL HAVE TO PAY FOR STATE E-FILING
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

In menu, Federal Taxes, Wages & Income, Your 2014 Income Summary, it would be nice to include capital gains (or losses) as either a separate sub menu or included with Investment Income
What's great about it: Hard to make a mistake
What's not so great: Takes a long time to imput all the data but needed for correctness

Ridiculous to need internet connection to print
on April 3, 2015
Posted by: SecurityIsKing
Just to print, TurboTax needs to connect to the internet. No explanation is given why nor what information is transferred. For a tax preparation program this is a huge breach of personal privacy and security. The program makes several connections to many servers when first run and no explanation is given for these connections nor the data transferred. If you value your privacy and security from ID theft, stay away from this product.
What's great about it: Typical Turbo Tax
What's not so great: Makes tons of connections to the internet

Not the best

Wish the answer X change was more precise in the answers generated from questions asked.
What's great about it: Not any more complicated than previous years filed.
What's not so great: Some of the answers on the Xchange were pretty generic.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Consistently easy to use
on April 3, 2015

Easy to use. Easy to get around. Easy to get answers when you have questions. The only place I consistently have time consuming difficultly is in my list of organizations that I donate to. I would love to be able to put them in alphabetical order so I don't have to hunt for them going up and down last years imported list several times before I find the one I'm looking for.
Overall, TurboTax is great. Much easier and faster than manually filling out the forms.
What's great about it: Love the ease downloading of stock/bond transactions has become.
What's not so great: I donate to many of the same causes every year. I find it hard to find them as they can not be alphabetized.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Poor on K1's for publicly traded MLP's
on April 3, 2015
Posted by: XYZ172
Very good - except cannot handle Master Limited Partnerships traded through brokerages. Really not that rare of an occurrence, for example Kinder Morgan or Enterprise Products are some of the largest energy companies in the United States. My brokerage reported sales of these MLP's on my 1099B. You also have to enter them on the K1 in order for ordinary income to be reported correctly. TurboTax ended up creating an additional 8949 which duplicated what my brokerage had already reported. I had to correct the 8949 from my brokerage (no problem), but could not delete the 8949 that TurboTax created for the K1 sales. I had to zero these numbers out via overrides, print my tax returns, and remove the extra 8949. Also, had to manually adjust the sales of these MLP's as TurboTax cannot handle multiple sales, or sales of the same MLP that has both long and short term capital gains. Year after year, this section of TurboTax is very poor and always needs manual intervention and overrides - but this year was especially bad.
What's great about it: Pretty straight forward
What's not so great: Can't handle MLP's traded through brokerages
Pros: I bought or sold investments
