I have used TurboTax since its inception back in the Money Counts days. Generally the program has always been quite good. Some areas are a bit vague as to what the response should be and where that data should be found and how much detail is needed (1099-B). Now that I am dealing with investments as my main source of income in retirement, much of the helps and explanations are quite vague like Cost basis calculations, etc. Demanding what is the difference in items like investment maintenance fees, broker fee, transfers, commissions, service fee, they all run together. I have a degree in business management and have been dealing with finance for many years. I can just imagine the poor soul without that experience. All in all a great program, but a bit more humanity is in need.
What's great about it: The interview method is great and Helps are generally good.
What's not so great: For retired persons, explanations re investment incomes is thin.

Simple and inexpensive

Lost a job early last year. With little income and few expenses, it didn't make sense to go to a tax service. This worked out very well for me and free federal filing was excellent.
What's great about it: Less expensive than a service
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Lessens the pain of getting gouged

I've been using TurboTax for years and find it extremely helpful after having previously done my taxes by hand. It completely automates all the calculations, updates information in real-time, and fairly easy to use considering how screwed up our income tax laws are. The ability to download all the various forms/statements is huge. Not having to manually enter W2's, 1099's, etc., save an incredible amount of time and eliminates all the potential errors that could be introduced.
What's great about it: Quick and easy to make changes
What's not so great: Could use a little more explanation for various fields

Premier handles ESPP beautifully!

If you have sold any ESPP stock, you need to use the Premier version. It make this overly complicated situation easy to deal with. Turbo Tax has made great improvements in this area over the years and now it is easy and the Turbo Tax math matches my documentation perfectly.
What's great about it: Clear and accurate handling of ESPP
What's not so great: None really.

I have used Turbotax for the past five years. It easily migrates most information from prior year to current year to speed up process. I haven't been able to use the automatic data field entry for Form 1s (even though I work for state government) or for migrating my retirement program information (TIAA). Haven't a clue why these aren't working for me but it they do for you it would be a great time saver and leave less room for typing errors
What's great about it: Draws attention to potential errors in return; asks questions to complete each section
What's not so great: Could use a bit more easily interpreted "you are here" waypoint while completing the return

I have used Turbo Tax for more than 20 years and I am continually impressed with the ease of use, without sacrificing accuracy. I always recommend Turbo Tax!

Filing Process Is Now Relatively Painless

You provide a great service both to individuals and my guess the Tax authorities as the proper selection of forms and the completeness/accuracy of the filing are all but ensured with TurboTax. Nice Job and thank you for making this annual process feel relatively painless.
What's great about it: I loved the way your product walked me through all of the individual steps of filing for both the Fed and State returns
What's not so great: None - Being old enough to have filed before the Days of TurboTax I know how simple you have made things
